Hey all!

This has been asked before but thought I re-ask with all the new people on here ... if you had to would you live with your SO in their home country? If the petition was denied or if life in the States was unbearable for either of you or any other reason?

I realise for some, due to responsiblities this is not an option ... but if you could would you?

I myself, went throu the visa process, got the visa but due to various issues did not use it. We live here now ... some days it is great, some bearable while others I am just  !

I could live in the middle east and would be there now if I could. As for Iraq, uh, not right now. If things got a lot better then I might consider it. The time I spent in Jordan and Syria was good though.

I considered it when the embassy lost our file. The only thing that stopped me was that we couldn't get legally married.

My family would probably had a hissy fit, then searched me out for an intervention  The only reason they tentatively agreed to be slightly open-minded about my marriage was the fact that we were waiting til he came to the US (well that and he had met my mother who approved as long as it was only a bf  )

Yep. I would willingly, not only if I had to. :)

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I dont think I would live there unless the situation became better were he lives. I am just gonna have to wait untill they let him come here. My husband lives in a war zone and last time I was there , there were bombs going off all the time. It was quite scarry. The woman in his area stay inside all the time. When they do go out they have to completely cover themselves, only the eyes showing. My shawl kept coming off all the time and his sisters had to keep adjusting it so it wouldnt come off. It was quite comical.

His place kind of reminded me of a mini-mental institution. Big cement walls that that surround the home with no windows, just some little look out windows that you see in fortress for battle. A court yard inside the home with fruit trees in the court yard. I was there for about 4 and half weeks last october. By the time it came time to leave I was more than ready to come home. I think I was experiencing some culture shock. I missed my food. I missed wearing my regular clothes. I missed people that spoke my language.

I am going back there in a couple months to see my husband again. The situation is still basically the same. His interview is this month. I really hope he can come to be with me here soon. I will wait till he is able too. I know for sure I cant live there. I am just being real. Its really not that safe for me there.

Yup we plan to move to Morocco in a few years, after habibi has citizenship and we all can travel back and forth (my family is here in the States). Both of our kids will have dual citizenship so they can attend school in either country. I'm looking forward to it and there are days when I really just want to up and leave. I'm sure when we do move there I'll have plenty of issues though!

We got our CR-1 case completed on 8-8-09, she is in Egypt now waiting for the interview date, which we'll know in about 10 days for possibly September, but it may not happen until October since the cairo embassy is so busy. I cannot be 2 more months w/o her, i offered to go to Egypt and she said it could be hell for me.

I'm a Christian and she is a Muslim, but we love and accept each other. For that reason our marriage is not recognized in Egypt. If I got I would be discriminated as an American tourist and my wife would be treater as a hooker. There would be no privacy and forget going into a hotel with her since ask for muslim marriage certificate. And prices 3-4 times higher than normal for being a foreigner.

She owns a house by herself in Alexandria, we could use for a few month, but the guard for the area could tell all her family we are there and could create major problems.

I told her better to come back to Texas and wait for the interview here then return to Cairo for medical exam and interview.

Considering all of this I would never consider going to live in a country like that, were there is no privacy, lot's of gossiping and discrimination. Women are not treated equally as men, she could be dishonored is they find out she is married to me. So I couldn't imagine living a comfortable live there unless a convert to muslim regligion.....very difficult.

Thanks GOD, we have much better and comfortable options to live either in US or Guatemala, my home country..which is not only beautiful, great climate, latin family values, and eyerybody accepts her without interfering with our religions.

I miss Jordan very much. Initially I wanted to move there because the family values there far surpass the way I see family values being treated here. I'm not sure I could handle living full time there though. Ideally 3 months-a-year would be perfect for us. We could go, travel, visit family, buy some new stuff for home, introduce my son to a new culture, and then come back home where all of lifes perks are easily obtainable. I could deal with living there and could adjust fairly easily. Kudos to my husband and all the other husbands who come here and aren't able to go home for 1, 2, 3, or more years.

Visited Jordan-December 2004

Interview-December 2005

Visa approved-December 2005, 1 week later after supplying "more information"

Arrived U.S.A.-December 2005

Removed Conditions-September 2008

Divorced in December 2013

I lived there almost a year total, and I always knew it was a possibility. There are nice things about the country but nice for vacationing. I would never want to live there unless I was filthy rich and able to pretend it was somewhere else. There is too much wrong with that country which would make it risky and dangerous for me to live there, although I would have done it if I had no choice, but probably been depressed the rest of my life. In the end, we would live together wherever, but we are more happy here.
