Hey in defense of SOME smokers out there... an occasional, and I DO MEAN occasional puff potentiates those same nicotinic AChR on your neurons to have Acetylcholine (the neurotransmitter) lingering about the synapse (the space between neurons that is all-important for nerve transmission). End result is that the receptors are activated over a longer period of time, and the transmission of the signal increases in time duration. Translation? Smoke a cig before a big test, an interview, etc, and you'll think better.

I knew my extreme wisdom came from somewhere...

and you suck, too

I do miss it. Especially after a big meal or while sitting out in the patio in a cool summer night.

I agree, it is shiat.

My father started smoking when he was a teenager and became a heavy smoker. My mom was a social smoker who was able to quit at will (once when pregnant with me, later when I asked her to after first grade anti-smoking indoctrination). My dad was unable to quit until he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, then he was able to quit but it was too late.

Since I've never smoked tobacco in my life, I don't know if I'd take after my mom or my dad. I know with alcohol and certain prescription drugs I've used recreationally* I do not have an addictive personality, which is great cause I'd hate to give up a good cabernet with steak forever.

When smokers tell me "well, you've got to die of something", I tell them that's right, but you don't want to die from cancer. I watched my dad die when I was 14, and my grandfather die from prostate cancer six months later. I just recently saw my uncle two weeks before he died from bladder cancer. No, smokers, you want to do everything you can to keep from dying that way.

* - had a prescription for vicodin after surgery. Used 5 of them for the pain, then had the remaining 15 over the course of a few months for the "whee" it gave me. After they ran out, didn't care.

Well it's true, you do have to die of something but the way they die is just incredibly painful. My mom's cousin passed away from lung cancer back in May and she suffered big time. I mean, this poor lady had to go through hell and back with all the pain and deterioration she had to endure. She was constantly on morphine, could barely breath, was alwasy coughing up red stuff, poor thing. So that right there is enough for me to not do it.

Not only that but I don't want to look like an old leather purse by the time I'm in my 40s. Forget that.
