SAYREVILLE —A man flew into a rage Friday night, stabbing his sister in the throat and punching her before fleeing the scene, police said.

Luis Diaz, 44, who police said may have a history of mental illness, attacked his sister with a kitchen knife shortly before 10 p.m. at a home on Oak Street in the Melrose section.

Ramona Diaz, 45, of Perth Amboy, reportedly offered her brother a slice of the mango she was cutting. He refused and became instantly enraged, police said, grabbed a knife and stabbed her before punching her repeatedly.

The siblings' parents pulled Luis Diaz off his sister, but he ran away on foot, according to Lt. John Zebrowski.

Police arrived to the scene to find Ramona Diaz standing in a second-floor bedroom, clenching her chest and bleeding heavily, Zebrowski said. Officers started treating one wound above her sternum and another on the left side of her neck while first-aid workers arrived.

...

Luis Diaz ...remains at large.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

If I were the parents I don't know how I would deal with the tragedy of the brother killing the sister in a fit of mental illness rage.
