I have a K-1 Visa and am currently waiting to obtain my work permit. I have many people who are willing to donate money to my wife and me if I were to become a missionary within the States. Since money donated to ministry work is tax deductible, I was just wondering if you needed a work permit to do ministry work. Anyone know for sure?

Do you mean to say you have already filed your AOS/EAD/AP application? The K-1 is void the minute you enter the U.S. The way I understand the work aspect, if you will be receiving money in exchange for your time that is considered work. Without the work permit (EAD) you cannot work.

Yes. I have filed for the EAD but I am waiting for the permit. I just wanted to know if you need the work permit in order to do ministry work because friends and family are donating the money to my wife and me.

Yes, because you need to have a TAX ID and SSN before receiving payment for any type of service. Otherwise you can't deduct any tax or file that payment you received.

Don't let the choices chose you, chose the choices that you want.
