OK! So on to the "sleeping with the inlaws" saga. So, I suggested the whole reason why I wanted it the way I wanted it was becausse it was more privacy for everyone and less disturbance, and he just laughed and didn't answer. later on, he said "we'll see when they get here." They aren't much for planning ahead, are they? I think because the girls do this sort of thing in his family, he doesn't realize that there is planning actually involved with making sure you have the right number of towels, supplies, beds made, etc.

Anyway, I am going to wait a bit, maybe until after we do a second round of applications. Then I am going to try again. I may just start speaking about it like it's fact LOL. The weird part is he basically wants to create a mini-Jordan for them over here. I don't understand why it is they can't try new foods, or can't sleep in the same room, or can't use a brand they don't recognize, drive in a different place in the car, or any of that.... yet... when you go over tehre they expect you to do things their way fully realizing you are not doing anything your way. I was talking to him about how they should flush their toilet paper and he just couldn't see why they should. I tried telling him they should pull the shower curtain shut and not water our floor and he said "we'll see." Maybe, if they come over and cause 10k of damage to the walls and such, next time he'll change his mind :)

You crack me up...and I just had a visual on cleaning up the bathroom after them...NO THANKS! As for the showering...HEHE...you know I think you have to talk with him matter of fact...as if it will be and its been decided. Act as if you have it all planned. That how they treat visitors overseas. Here is how we do it....do this. LOL :innocent:

They are never into planning...they take everything day by day. I drive my hubby nuts with "do you want to do this on this date?" He is always responds, lets see whats going on first...wait. Wait? Wait for what..someone else to make other plans? LOL Grrr

I think all will be fine once they arrive...make it fun for them...and show them the "new" things like a shower curtain or flushing toilet paper...sounds silly and simple but I swear when they see the "new" stuff they will try it.

Funny story: Do you know the Clorox Toilet Cleaner Stick? It has disposable discs? Well, I keep the stick by the side of the toilet hidden...my hubby has seen it over and over....never said a word. The other day I'm bending over cleaning the toilet with it....he's on his cell phone talking to his family and he stops talking and pokes me on my back and said...I swear I wondered why you kept junk behind the toilet...I never knew what it was for..he continued to tell his mother about it..he was amazed. HEHE....

Now he uses it...because he thinks the "new" tool is amazing. I am thrilled w/ his new cleaning skills!

That's it Julianna I would put my foot down. 10K of damage! Damb! I would say this is the way it's going to be and you're going to support me and you get the privilege of telling them.

Yeah, I had a friend who was in teh same situationa dn her Dh wouldn't tell his family "no" on certain thigns. What they ended up doing was for one month showering without the curtain, pouring water all over the floor, breaking the toilet (by squatting on it), and of course the water caused damage to the floor, the hall, the carpet in the hall, the walls in the bathroom, the walls in the hall and adjoining room, etc. They basically had to replace their toilet, the entire bathroom had to be gutted, as well as the hall and adjoining room wall. then all that had to be replaced, and then repainted. It was a mess.

I would love to know why it always has to be their way regardless of the country they are in. If they come here, then they should do things our way. If we are there, then we do it their way. Simple.

My husband's family had a shower curtain in their bathroom in Jordan. I assume they used it since I didn't notice any extra water on the floor while I was there. They had toilet paper too and I didn't notice it going any other place. I know my husband doesn't use it and prefers water, but I assume they had it because some of them use it. Then again, they may have done that for me, I don't know. They are really good at knowing how people in the west do things because his father used to do a lot of traveling for business prior to the 1st Gulf War and sanctions.

It all depends on where they are from and areas....I believe. I have friends outside of Amman and they are more traditional in their ways and the bathrooms are traditional bathrooms...no shower curtains and water drain on the floor where you use the squeegee to push the water down the drain. However, my cousins in Amman, they have Western style bathrooms that we are used to using. It all depends :) I won't go into toilets and my experiences...*shivers*

They have a shower curtain, TP, and whatnot as well.. but mostly they don't mind about water going out of it because of the floor drain. I am hoping he stresses there is no floor drain! I know it will be fine if he will just tell them.

I totally agree-- I don't understand why they can't just make concessions for certain things. It's not like it's against their religion or something. You can try new foods and such. Didn't see the verses against that in the Qu'ran.

Usually what I do with foreigner's that are babies to my country is show them everything and how to use it. This is because I remember what it's like being a baby in other countries and being totally lost in how to use things sometimes. I make it clear if they have questions to ask me and it's no problem at all.

LOL! Mine says we don't even know if we will eb alive on that day. Well, that is true. BUt that doesn't mean we should plan to die each day and be surprised at the end of it that we're still alive.

Well, they have a shower curtain in his parent's house and all of that, but, they repfer the traditional bathrooms without any of that. Sigh. figured I will show them how to do the shower just ebcause every shower is different and you know how akward it is when you try one you're not sure about. I always ask a guest if they want me to show them really quick.

LOL about the toilet wand! That is hilarious. You know Ammar discovers new things all the time in our house. He's actually a really good cleaner, but I only have one issue. i noticed he touches raw chicken and then touches EVERYTHING with that hand, and then only wipes the counters with water-- not wiping all teh fixtures he touched. he also touches the cabinets and such. I tried to talk about germs, but as aforementioned by me, they claim to have a concept of germ-theory of disease, but they really don't have the same understanding. He was so offended when I mentioned something. So now I just have taken to wiping down my stuff, including the food boxes. I don't know what to do about this!

They are scary places in public. he swears I am wrong in imagining that girls squat on western toilets. then WHY are all the seats broken and there are footprints on them??? Sigh.

I figured the shower I would defintely show, and maybe the garbage disposal and explain NO TRASH goes down it (that is not from experience with Ammar but another friend who told her Dh that "oh, that's the garbage disposal" and then came home one day to a flooded sink and he was trying to figure out what went wrong.. he put paper towels, an aluminum can for something small, and something else like a plastic bag down it and tried to run it... the plastic and towels jammed up the works. Makes sense, really, she did say garbage disposal.) yeah, I'd like them to feel like they can actually survive there. Maybe I'll show the washer and dryer as well in case there are other men who come. I don't know how they will feel about me doing their DH's laundry, so it may be something they want to do themselves. Not sure.

 Good idea on the washer and dryer. When I was in Egypt I was so lost on the washer and dryer in the the places I'd stay because they are so different compared to the sophisitcated ones we have here. Waleed had to do my laundery for me. He was saying, "I would never do this for anyone else." But it was really a lot of fun with me and him doing laundry together, or at least him teaching me how to do it with the machines they had.:lol:

LOL they had all kinds of settings with pictures that made no sense. I remember the snowflake. We figured that means cold. Actually, the snowflake was related to the spin cycle. How does that even make sense?

It's crazy....my hubby's family never had a dryer...only the washer. So when he came here, he's thrilled w/ getting his clothes done so fast. I hate doing wash...he does it all the time...thank god! He washes and dries and I fold and put away...I like that deal! :)
