I always wanted to move to the US, I think because I had some stereotype about America (better country, cheaper, i can't even remember now....). But now that I live here, I miss Canada IMMENSELY!

Dunno if I would have moved here otherwise unless I had a job offer or something, though. Too much work and money in the immigration process.

I always dreamt of moving to one of the fashion capitals in mainland Europe for work. I only ever once concidered NEw York as a possibility after a disaterous study period in France and my poor French skills  but I would never have done it. Unless a really good job oportunity arose. I'm only moving cos I want to be with the man I love.

Just an interesting thought I had today!

Would you all immigrate to USA if it weren't for the one you love within the last 4 years?

To be honest? NO.. I knew that many people see USA as land of milk and honey but there are good opportunities everywhere. If not for my husband, I wouldn't want to go through this immigration process unless there is a very lucrative job offer. I have already established my career so going to the US means that I need to start from scratch again.

I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how -- completely and forever......

I agree, the common thought process is that America is the land of opportunity and that people are lucky to be granted a way in; not for me!! In the UK, I get free healthcare, pay less for education, get public transport, more job opportunities, strong currency...

I will graduate next year but my degree won't be used as usefully as it would here. I would have to start from the bottom in the US as I've heard it's so hard for immigrants to get jobs there, it would take me so long to get relevant experience. So I'm looking at "lower level" jobs that I might enjoy.

Still, it's all worth it to be with my fiancee. He's the only reason I smile everyday anyway, so a good job isn't important. :)

i would still choose to live in my own country ... though its harder to earn a living there... i still love the life i left behind...

Good chance I wouldn't have never moved anywhere outside Canada if it wasn't for my husband :P

To be perfectly honest, in the past four years or so I had considered the idea of moving abroad more than once, but never to the US - or at least, not seriously enough. I always thought I'd go for another European country, possibly the UK, since it is much easier to move within the EU than to the US. However, I would've definitely moved to pursue some better professional opportunities: being alone before I met my SO, I thought I'd stay single for the rest of my life, so my career was the most important thing to me. Here in Italy I have a steady but dead-end job, practically no family, almost no friends, and I have strong reasons to dislike my country (long story). Therefore, in spite of the well-known flaws of the US of A, I'm more than happy to move there - even if I am no spring chicken.

Unlike the person above me, both me and my husband were perfectly happy in Italy and totally loved it, so no, I wouldn't have moved here if it wasn't for his job which transferred him. We are moving back there in a few months btw.

I feel exactly the same. I would rather stay in the UK and keep my job which I love... but I love my husband more and he can't move for about 8 years because of his daughters. And I agree that's the right thing to do.

I love my country, the simplicity of life from the town of where I came from, and I love my family so dearly..if not for my husband I would never ever immigrate here in US. But we consider settling down back in Philippines, that something I look forward to.
