Hi!! all:

I would greatly appreciate if anyone can tell me, how long is a police certificate good for. It is 6 month or 1 year to take to the interview or mailed to NVC.

Also I read about a new vaccination.beginning August 1, 2008. I had all mine done in 2006-2007. Will my vaccination be any good, since we are 2008. I mean, for example, most needles are good for 7 years. It was 5, now 7 years. I never got a special form for that. In Canada, it is a green book, with lab results to prove that some vaccination cannot be proven in the blood stream.

the last question concern the panel physician. I heard that there is one in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is very difficult to time an appointment with a physician and Montreal consulate which hopefully I will be going soon.

I hope that each of us is with our love ones soon. That no one suffers in the waitting game. We do, but it does make, for stronger character to wait for something, sometimes on edge.I do not have an appointment, yet, but just the thought of going there, makes me ill. It makes me so nervous. and when I get nervous, I am the type that get's all mess up with dates. For example, while visiting my husband in Missouri, at the border, a quard, kept asking me questions about how long I would be there and so on. I told him that I would be coming back July 1, 1960. Oh God!!!!

Thanks for your continued help.May the Lord bless you all for helping others like me . What goes around comes around, they say.

I'll try and answer you as best I can based on what I've found in my own research...

The information I'm finding on the validity of a police certificate is one year, but that is only from 'unofficial' sources. I can't find anything from the NVC or the Montreal Consulate to confirm or deny this. If you already have one in your possession, your safest bet would be to simply call the NVC and ask if it is still valid. If you do not already have one, then it will not likely be an issue, as the RCMP will not issue a certificate without proper documentation from the NVC proving you need it, so it would be new when you submit it. All I know for sure is that it HAS to be an RCMP certificate, which they officially call a 'Criminal Record Certificate'. A certificate from your regional police detachment will not be accepted.

As far as vaccinations go, as long as you have proof that you have received - or at least started, for those vaccines administered in a series - all of the age appropriate ones that are required you will not need to have them done again. You need to have had a Tetanus Diphtheria booster, the only one that requires upkeep, within the last 10 years. The only vaccine that is exempt from the proof requirement is Varicella, for which a verbal declaration of having had chickenpox is acceptable. Any documentation you are missing should be obtainable from your local public health unit and/or family doctor. If you are unable to obtain documentation for any required vaccines then you will need to either provide lab reports proving immunity, or have them redone (your family doctor's office will likely be cheaper than the panel physician's office). You will also be required to have a blood test for HIV and syphilis as well as a chest x-ray for tuberculosis done at your medical appointment REGARDLESS of how recently you have had these tests done, as the panel physician cannot accept any outside test results. All information on vaccines and tests was taken from my local panel physician's website (information will be the same for all immigrants).

And finally, according to the Montreal Consulate's website, there is only one authorized panel physician in Nova Scotia, and you are correct, he is in Halifax. You will not be able to book an appointment with him for an immigration medical until you have received an appointment letter from Montreal. Once the medical has been done, it is valid for one year (which I can virtually guarantee you will be well within your interview's time frame).

Hope that was some help. :)
