Hey!

I'm still looking into options about which visa is the best to apply for! My husband-to-be and I have so many choices we have no idea which to choose! The really expensive options are the ones we WANT to do of course, but those are the expensive ones!

Right now we are both living in Italy but we have to leave Italy in one month and we dont know where we are going! He can't come to the US even to visit because it is very difficult to get a tourist visa. We could apply for K-1 or we could both go to Brazil and apply for K-3....or, depending on your answers here...we could both go to Brazil, get married and do DCF.

So, I know that is says on the guide that there is usually a 6 month residency requirement, but it does not say exactly how long it is for each country. So, how long do you have to legally be a resident of Brazil to DCF there? Is there a limit on how long you have to be married to each other?

Also, off topic, but does anyone have any advice on K-1 vs K-3 that you might want to add? I've looked at the timelines and still can't decide which might be best!

Thanks for any help!

There is no limit how long you have to be married to do DCF, you can file the day after you get married if you want (and if you have the 6 months residency requirement).

That's what we did! Carlos and I got married 6/21/08 in a civil ceremony (at a cartorio) and filed DCF 6/23/08. I had been living in Brazil for 11 months on a student visa. We got our instruction packet in the mail yesterday!

We are planning on having a big religious wedding in the US later on.
