We are in the final stages of out K1 visa, have sent DS230 back to consulate along with the checklist, and are awaiting packet 4 and an interview date. My question is, my US fiancee is above the poverty guideline but as we have had many financial committments this year, she currently has no savings in her bank account. She is a full time student and also working full time, and her wages are enough to keep her above the poverty guidelines for this fiscal year, so am I worrying unnecessarily about her current lack of savings in the bank?

If she's barely making it you might consider getting a co-sponsor, if you can have one that would garantee success in the interview.

If her income meets the %125 minimum requirement, then you wouldn't need the bank statement.

They just care if your are able to be 125% above poverty level in order to sponsor, She does have checking I hope just, submit her checking bank statements to show them that she is able to support you too.

savings aren't a big deal - its that you are over the required amount - however you get there (earnings/assets whatever is allowable).

Likewise debts are of little interest to them.

If you are both really worried and can easily secure a co-sponsor then do so.

Hmmm. I'm not sure it's "anything goes" no matter how you get there. I believe they're looking for a revenue stream, since savings can be easily depleted. Here's a tip on affidavits:

"If you do not have a job or a steady income from other sources (such as retirement income), you will likely have to get a co-sponsor for your spouse, even if your assets are adequate. The USCIS looks VERY CLOSELY at current income and not just the assets."

Maybe we're both saying the same thing: savings are not of paramount importance to them. But it seems a steady income is.

How is she studying and working full time? Provided she meets the 125% poverty guidelines you will be fine but if you feel happier with a co-sponsor by all means get one
