My husband's work has placed him on a "short list" for a 5 year project in Vancouver BC. He received his 10 year greencard in May. I did a search and found some interesting information, but thought I would just check with the community for any additional experience with this. Naturally we want to maintain his PR here as we would return, thus my concern :). Thanks for any help!

Try to research the Article 319b of Immigration and Nationality Act, try to check if your husband fall under this requirement.. He can apply naturalization and get done with the greencard.

If push comes to shove you live in Bellingham, WA and he crosses the border for work each day....

Yep - that might be a good idea, depending on where the office is.

ETA - I had forgotten to mention that my husband is a citizen of Canada (and I am not).

Both Vancouver and Bellingham are great towns, but the drive would kill him. I'm speaking from experience.

LaL, I would try to make sure that my husband did whatever it takes to keep his LPR status. Try to do some type of commute daily. After everything you all have been through, I would not want to throw that away.

That is just my two cents.

LaL we have the same problem, but it is me (the USC) who is being assigned to Saudi for 3-5 years and my wife is accompanying me. We actually have an infopass appointment tomorrow to discuss our options with one of the immigration officers - ima bring the whole package with me and let them advise us on the best thing to do.

i don't get it.

A Lawyer is someone to discuss options with, not an Immigration Officer.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
