My fiance will most likely not be able to come, 'cus of work, but he said that if it takes too much longer to the interview he'll come see me before it, since he's got a free ticket, but I understand him not coming. Besides, I'll fly to him as soon as I get the visa afterwards. It'd be nice to have him there for support though, I think it makes the case stronger.

I went to Egypt for my fiances interview however I was not allowed up to the window where the interview took place. Don't think it helped us out any though since we have been waiting 14 weeks now since his interview. Do make sure though if you do go, that you are allowed to go since some embassies do not let you in. Best of luck at your interview!

Both Montreal and Vancouver allow the USC fiancee/spouse to be present for the interview. In fact, they asked more questions of me than of my then fiancee. Just happened that the interviewer and I went to the same University. Spent most of the time chit chatting...

My fiance wasn't present at my interview, because he couldn't get the time off work at such short notice, and it costs a lot of money to fly to the UK.

My interview was also close to Christmas and so he we'd already planned for him to come over for that (and for me to hopefully get my visa in time to fly back with him in the new year), before we knew my interview date. It turns out I got my interview a week before he came over. I don't think my interviewer thought any less of me for it, he barely asked any questions before smiling and telling me he couldn't see any reason why I couldn't have it.

I just thought I'd get a feel for who has/will be going to the interview with their fiance. My fiance is coming from California to go to mine (whenever it shall be) with me. I can't imagine not going to the interview together. If nothing else it will be for emotional support. It really doesn't seem to me that a lot of partners go together to the interview. Why is this? Jon is taking off time from work to go with me and then we'll be going back together hopefully. He'll take 2 weeks off work to go with me too. I would think most partners would WANT to go together because its such a huge milestone in the process.

I have to go. Peru is (I think) the only country where the USC is required to be at the interview. High fraud rate and all. I'd rather not go, because I have to pay for an extra ticket to go down there and may have to miss a week of college to do it. Plus traveling with my 1 year old is a pain in the behind. I can't leave him home with my parents yet because he's too young and is still nursing. But, all necessary. In any case, I AM happy to go to the interview with my fiance. It's just the extra expense and the extra traveling...I am also glad to get another chance to spend some time with my friends and family down in Peru.

Certainly there are things to consider. I will not be going to my fiancee's interview next week. For me it was a matter of the cost of the trip (I'm still trying to pay for my 4 visits last year!) plus the vacation time I would need to take. I felt like those days would be better spent after she's here, or if we are able to go back and visit her family later this year.

Of course, if you officially or unofficially "have" to be there, then I guess there's really no choice. But I have spoken with several people whose wives went through the embassy in Bogota by themselves without problems. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to have faith that we've got everything in order!

I went by myself... A friend of mine took the train with me to Dublin and left me in front of the us embassy... I met her after the interview...

It helps me to have a friend with me doing the trip as i was a little less nervous.

Hmm.

I would say from observing this forum for over 18 months, the USC is usually not at the interview. Probably just a matter of travel costs and timing in most cases.

As stated before, some consulates will let the USC in and some won't.

And in some consulates it helps the case for the USC to attend - in others it doesn't matter one hoot.

I think it really pays to research this matter and find out.

I went with Wes. He really wanted me there that day. I took 2 weeks from work to go. It was my first opportunity to visit Londonderry, see his world and meet his brother and friends. It was also an excuse for us to visit London together. As far as memories goes...well we will always remember our whirlwind 36 hours in London....and that anti-climactic yet life-changing interview at the window!

I think Becca is right. The consulate in question does make a difference, I'm sure, but I think most often, the non USC attends the interview on their own.

I am hoping to go to my fiance's when the time comes, but I'm starting to think that I'd rather save that time and money to help him finish packing, and fly back to our home with him in tow. (L)

When I was waiting for my interview in Sydney the Americal Consul gave 1 USC a hard time for being there with his SO. She virtually told him he was an idiot for not marrying her while he was in Oz and applying there and then!

Sad, after all he thought he was being supportive, and Id have loved mine to be able to take the time off and take a 30 hour trip, one way, just to get to be with me.

Guess its different depending where you are coming from!

B) Well I'm glad the Montreal embassy permits USC to go inside the interview. I'd feel better that way. We knew from the beginning that when it came time to go to the interview he was going to go with me. We have planned for it. He just visited and is not coming again til interview time in order to save vacation days from work for it and save up to fly here. I'll be going right back with him if I get the visa!

IMHO and it's not for everyone if I didn't go, I'd personally have guilt regardless of what happened.

It won't be easy for me and work. Unless there's more important matter keeping me, then I have to figure out some way to go.

All IHMO you understand.
