I just thought I'd get a feel for who has/will be going to the interview with their fiance. My fiance is coming from California to go to mine (whenever it shall be) with me. I can't imagine not going to the interview together. If nothing else it will be for emotional support. It really doesn't seem to me that a lot of partners go together to the interview. Why is this? Jon is taking off time from work to go with me and then we'll be going back together hopefully. He'll take 2 weeks off work to go with me too. I would think most partners would WANT to go together because its such a huge milestone in the process.

I'll be joining my fiance for his interview in a couple of weeks. It's not required, of course, but I'm looking forward to being there for moral support. Plus, I've never been to Vancouver.

For a lot of people, it would be difficult to book plane tickets and fly to SO's country to go to the interview..

I always assumed I'd go alone, basically because his work schedule is too chock full of last minute travel to count on it, and also I guess because I don't view it as something he needs to be at with me. I've never really thought about it as the big step - just the final step! The consulate is a couple of blocks away from my office - I figured I'd just take the morning or afternoon off, mosy on over there and get it done, come back to the office and hopefully show off my new visa!

Now, perhaps if I had to travel to the consulate, I'd think about his going with me more... turn it into a plan and a trip/visit!

My fiance flew to Vancouver to go to interview with me last Tuesday, and it sure was a good feeling. We stayed in Vancouver for 5 days and made a vacation. It's such a great city and a lot to see.

I was feeling much better with him around than if I had to go alone. I would highly recommend for fiance to join in the interview if possible. Consular officer even asked him some questions, and I think it shows them that he/or she cares.

You mean the fiance is allowed to go into the interview with you?? I was wondering about that beacuse I know I'd feel better having him beside me. Interviews of any kind are nerve wrecking enough. If not though its still ok cuz at least he will be with me.

my understanding from what a lot of people have posted, is that yes, the fiance(e) can be IN the interview. Several of them have been asked questions etc.

Yeah for those that can't get time off or for financial reasons but I think if those are not problems then the fiance should be there with their partner. It just looks better!

For some consulates, it's an unwritten rule that the USC HAS to be present at the interview. Canada -- it's not that big of a deal. Technically, the interview is for the non-USC alone. I don't think my interviewer looked down on me for being there without Jerry. In fact, on the same day as my appointment, there were at least four other K-1ers there on their own. Dunno.

It would be great if Casey could be there but he won't be. We can't afford for him to fly there or take the time off work. It is going to be tough going for a few months for him to support 4 extra people so we need to prioritize.

At some consulates, the fiance cannot enter the consulate for the interview - Ciudad Juarez in Mexico for example does not allow fiances or spouses into the interview - they have to wait outside!!

My then fiance, now husband, wasn't able to get the time off of work either. As I had to travel to Montreal and he had to travel in from Georgia, it would mean several days off of work for him mid-week, plus the expense of two different airflights for him on top of my airflight. There was no problem going to the interview by myself and there were a number of others there for their K-1s as well by themselves. I took the opportunity to visit with my cousin while I was in Montreal instead. n We celebrated my visa success by having dinner in Old Montreal - great fun.

I went with my fiance to her interview in Brazil. She wanted me to go for support and I wanted to go for this reason and as well to protect her as someone not accustomed to being alone in a city like Rio. As it turns out it may have been helpful in obtaining the visa. The interviewer asked literally no questions of her and asked two questions of me related to my previous marriage and financial support. I think that it depends upon each couples circumstances, but it seems that going as a couple holds a good likelyhood of positive results.
