vaccination supplement waivers

hi,

i entered the US on a K1 in january and am now happily married. i want to send my AOS soon and just brought my vaccination supplement to a civil surgeon to have it filled out. when i had my medical examination done in Canada, they told me i was missing a shot and it was required, so i got it done (tetanos). now, the civil surgeon says i need to get a tuberculosis shot. i DO NOT want to get more shots done.

my question is this:

i know that at the bottom of the vaccination supplement form there is mention of waivers on ethical or religious basis. has anyone done this, does anyone have information on what is required to get a waiver and avoid having to redo these shots?

any information would be much appreciated.

Hi there.

I, also, didn't want my husband have to get even more dangerous vaccines, but unfortunately, the only alternative was filing the I-601 waiver form along with the appropriate fee. We couldn't afford it, so my husband had to get more shots.

Look up pertinent info on the I-601, I think there may even be a forum here on VJ specifically for people filing the form. Good luck!

Are you sure you need a tuberculosis shot and not just a tuberculosis test? I didn't think they gave tuberculosis shots in the US.

Sorry, have to add one more thing. It might be kind of difficult for you to use a waiver based on moral or religious convictions that you are against having vaccinations, since you've already been vaccinated.

My suggestion is to look for another civil surgeon. I was amazed at how many different answers I got from civil surgeons when I was looking for one to fill out the vacc. supplement.

They inject a small amount into your arm on the under side and you go back a couple of days later to see if it has reacted

i am not in a position to do this. the civil surgeon is 3h away; my step-dad had to bring in the form for me. he told me they told him that i needed a shot, not a test. i will be calling the office tomorrow to get more information.

i think i might do as suggested and see another civil surgeon if that one insists on the shot/test. even if its just a test i am not willing to do it. the only reason i even let them give me a shot back in Canada was because i didn't think there was a way out of it and thought it could cost me my Visa. now i know better, so i won't get any more shots.

ps. i looked up waiver I-601.... 265$, wow! i hope that isn't my only option, i am not willing to pay that. i will get more info tomorrow and let you guys know.

the tb shot is the same as the BCG injection given in the uk. You get a little thing called the six needles which is a small dose of vaccine to see if it reacts. if it goes away then you need a vaccination.

just wanted to update on this topic.

turns out my step dad misunderstood the woman that called him. she said i needed a Td shot (tetanos), not a Tb (tubersulosis). i called the civil surgeon and told them i got this shot done in Montreal before moving. the woman apologised and said she totally missed that on the form i provided. she said my I-693A would be ready monday. and will only cost 10$! i am glad this turned out to be just a simple misunderstanding.

so i get to finally send in my AOS next week!!! yay!!!
