CR1/ advise on maiden name and tax returns for I864

Hello everyone here at VJ,

I am new to the forum and am seeking some advice. My CR1 petition was approved in June of 2008 from CSC and is currently at NVC. I was compiling my supporting documents for I864 and have a few questions. I have a partnership in a small consulting firm. Most of my business documents still have my maiden name. I just recently started the process of having my name changed to my married name as I got married in Feb 2008.

Since the tax return from 2007 and the business license show my maiden name do I need to write a letter of explanation to NVC stating that I am in the process of having my name changed on my business documents or will they figure it out since I recently got married? What should be included in the letter?

Also, for self employment in a partership what supporting documents do I need to send?

Name change upon marriage is not a requirement... Even after marriage some people decide to keep a previous name for use as there business name or never change it at all.

You don't have to explain to them why you still use your maiden name. My husband and I got married in 01/07 and I didn't start the whole change of name process until the end of the year, way after my husband received his CR1 visa.

Your partnership provides you a Form K-1 that you put on your Schedule E to Form 1040... As long as you provide your complete 1040 with attachements and schedules all should be there...

Personally I think your name issue is much ado about nothing...

I was gonna say the same thing...1040 and appropriate schedules.

As for the name change...probably much ado about nothing...but I'd be proactive and send a quick letter noting that

"While I have made application under my newly married name, many of my support documents and others may reflect my maiden name.

To that end...Mary Doe and Mary Smith are the same person".

Something like that
