My husband is not from the US and I have never been ridiculed. But I think you're referring to men who actively seek women to marry in other countries. Is that right?

I think in the US is very common now to see people, men or women, sign up on matchmaking web sites. The reasons for this vary, some do it because they don't have time to date, others because they can choose people with the traits they're looking for, and others simply because it's easier.

It's not very common however to see a woman pay to meet different men in other countries to marry them, that's more of a man thing. In fact, I've never met any women who've ever done it.

Agree with you mononoke28, but there are some that didn't pay any websites or use mail order bride to get wife from other countries. There are some like my husband that browse pages to look for profiles and make friends with those girls that interest him. Then eventually the relationship got developed and urgency of meeting them in person gets imminent. Usually these relationships get stronger when both of them surpassed all the stress while being apart. Some did not probably because their expectation didn't meet and got frustrated. It's important that partners have open communication and knows everything what's going on.

but for example if a guy is a cheater, how do you know he doesn't have another girls online>>???/

And a guy you meet in real life can't be a cheater? How do you know, he isn't dating 2 women at the same time. I had, still have a college friend who always had atleast 2 girl friends at the time and none of the girls knew about each other's existence, and nothing online, both in the same city, so go figure.

For any relationship you have to give time for it to develop and trust to come, I have met my husband online, though no dating site, just yahoo chat, we had mutual friends and were part of a kind of clique and he was more interested in me than I was, actually never in my life did I think I will end up with him, he was way too into religion/spirituality and I am an atheist.

Anyways back to topic, I think it really depends upon the couples and let them figure out how they think if the other person is trustworthy or not. You can never be sure let it be real life or virtual life, but that doesn't mean you always have to live in fear and stop trusting. If the person hasn't given you any reason to doubt then why bring the trust issue at the first place?

And I personally find if hypocritical when always the male partner is being questioned, how "he" can always have other girl friend or whatever, how about the woman? why can't she have another boyfriend? Why the gender biased question?

Sorry, I couldn't resist...
