i definitely sought out my husband because of his nationality. I was sitting in my igloo one day and said 'self... you should go and get yourself an American to cuddle with so these long winter nights are not so long any more.. besides you need more sun, so you should get closer to the equator'...

From that point on.. I hunted and I caught my USC.. It's a thrilling love story.... My only regret is that he's not from a more "exotic" location - like Detroit.. or perhaps Milwaukee....

*tongue and cheek.. forgive my naughtiness..

ROFLMAO! I'm sure my husband is ever so glad that I rescued him from that freezing igloo and brought him to civilisation. I can't imagine what his life was like back in Canada, you know...in the snow...isolated...living on raw fish...

OHMYGOSH that's funny.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

The shine is off the apple and this is not the destination everyone is dying to reach.

Most people are going to have an attachment to whereever they're from due to family ties and connections to the local culture and language. The planet has over 6 billion people and the U.S. over 300 million. Most people aren't going to want to move to the U.S. but from the American prespective, the number of people moving here or want to move here is huge.

Some Americans are too ignorant of the rest of the world to know that a good lifestyle can be attained in the developing world, I'll point out the lack of respect towards the extended family as one example where America falls short of many places. It's considered shameful to live amongst an extended family here. What's up with that? Lack of child care, no sense of community, sky-high medical costs and general isolation are a few other drawbacks that come to mind.

I lived in Asia for 2 years and Europe for 2 years myself so you're not telling me much that I didn't know before. Most of the drawbacks you mentioned are true but people either choose to remain where they are or are willing to take a chance in a new country. Most people in the developing world couldn't buy a plane ticket to the U.S. even if they wanted to and most know they won't get a visa to a developed country. By contrast, a lot of Americans could easilly move to another country but choose not to. Despite the drawbacks, I doubt most Americans would move abroad because some of us also have an attachment to this country. My point is even a minority of people emigrating from a country adds up to a lot of people at the other end of pipeline entering America; therefore, Americans get the impression a lot of people want to come here.

If more people knew that yes, it is possible to have a decent lifestyle with plenty of opportunities in the developing world, they would stop assuming that everyone wants to escape and come here and will marry just for a green card. Some will, but most will not.

You're clearly talking to no one here on this forum since we're all involved with some foreigner so repeating yourself doesn't make much sense. Save your insights for your fellow ignorant Americans. I learned a long time ago a country won't change to suit you so it's pointless to keep grumbling about it and either make adjustments or just move overseas.

So, what is the destination "everyone" (or, better, the majority of emigrants) is dying to reach?

I, like Emancipation; was sitting in a Mexican cornfield, barefoot and illiterate, and I prayed to the Virgen de Guadalupe to please send me a gringo to take me out of that place where me and my 19 brothers and sisters ate beans and tortillas when it was a good day. I then moved to Acapulco and worked as a hooker and a drug mule, and then I met my husband--- the Virgin had heard my pleas!!!! Now of course I want to bring all my family here to eat and live properly.

Sheesh... this thread is as moronic as they come. Again, assumptions about "American women" and "Foreign women". Get a life.

You forgot where you celebrated getting drunk and driving. :innocent:

 I love it!

Well, as an American, I was totally ignorant of anything outside my own town and had never gone more than 10 miles from home. I spoke only English, and desperately hoped I could find a dark, tall, and handsome foreign man to sweep me off my feet and show me the world! So I met my husband who promised me 40 camels, gave me boxes of gold jewelry, and took me to stay in his tent! He sent my parents 30 dinar of gold for me and 2 goats, 3 chickens, a cow and a camel. He dressed me up in tribal clothing, covered my face with a veil, gold, and embroidered head coverings, had his servants make me cakes, and he personally slaughtered a sheep for our wedding night party, which was beautifully lit by oil-lamp light. We wandered in the desert from place to place for the next 2 years until we got the visa and then he moved here. I am just sooooo happy I looked for my Arabian prince! :hehe:

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Well, they lay golden eggs like the golden goose, so I thought it was acceptable! :star: My parents smelt the gold and use it to pave the streets of their city.
