I don't know the answer to your question, but I will say that I would never consider taking my Wife to Mexico unless she were a naturalized citizen. I wouldn't want her to go anywhere outside of the U.S., which has plenty of places that rival Cancun!

You would need to check with the Mexican Embassy/Consulate to see if they require a visa for someone with your wife's nationality. The expired greencard and the NOA letter are sufficient for returning to the US.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi:

I am curious why you would take such a rigid stance on this issue. I, and many others, have travelled many times abroad as a permanent resident - Europe, UK, Australia, Mexico, South America etc. It is really quite simple - make sure you meet the requirements for returning to the US AND make sure you meet the entry requirements for the country you go to. Depending on your nationality, some countries may require you to obtain separate visas for entry, but all this can be done with careful planning. Why the paranoia?

1.) Expired Green Card.

2.) The absolute hell that Ho Chi Minh City puts some through to get the Visa.

and 3.) The nightmare that some have went through returning to th U.S.

We just got back from Toronto (driving through the border) and there was no problem. My wife took her colombian passport, her expired green card and the extension letter. Both immigration officers (US and Canada), looked over the letter and we had no issues.

It is a well known piece of documentation so go ahead and travel without any issues. Of course, you must find out if there are visa requirements to travel to Mexico.

take care

I read somewhere that you do not need a visa to Mexico if you have a GC. However, with the GC expired it could be a whole other ball of wax: I am not sure how Mexican border people will deal with the NOA1 (they are not that smart). My best adsvise is to contact the closest Mexican consulate to where you live. To find addresses of Mexican consulates, go to:

Go to Cancun, it's wonderful! I actually recommend Playa Del Carmen on the Riveara Maya about 45 minutes south. Cancun is definitely NOT double the price compared to the USA It's actually the same or much cheaper if you go to an all incluisive. Right now there are some really good specials, nice hotels for like 70-80 dollars per person per night all inclusive, it's worth it for the food and drink! In Cancun you can take the city bus for 5 or 6 pesos, and outside food is about the same as the USA, nice hotels that arent all inclusive are all over the place too. If you need any advice PM me!

if you prefer you can get a stamp... however, they may accept the letter. I just came back from Jamaica and they only looked at my card (which I attached to my letter and they promptly handed me back the letter) and said my card is expired, then i handed them the letter again, then stamped my passport and said 'have a good night'... but you could check the embassy here to make sure.
