Holy shmamoly!

#######!!! is totally right.

You should be able to move to the U.S. with just a toothbrush if you so choose.

Talk about close-minded, incompetent...oh blah blah blah.

I have no use for borders.

Damn them.

Grrrrrrr......

We are all humans on this one blue/green Earth.

And as a citizen of this planet....

oh I can get off on a rant.

Ha!

They have traumatized me, and so....

SpiritAlight edits due to extreme lack of typing abilities. :)

You will do foolish things.

Do them with enthusiasm!!

Don't just do something. Sit there.

"The border people really should read up on their policy"....hahaha...suuuuure.

I've had issues with the border guys regarding paper work (of a different kind) before. When you think they should know paper work(especially if it is issued by the US) cross your fingers & hope for the best/someone that actually knows it!

I've got a Nexus card as well. I don't think I'll use it for situations other than visiting. I would use the regular lanes next time you cross(after using nexus, I know how painful that is!).

Good luck in future crossings.

Thanks Kathryn! I was planning on printing out every piece of info that says I'm allowed to just show up and get stamped and bring my ####### when I feel like it tomorrow at work so you just cut my search time down big time.

I'll be hitting the border again tomorrow after work in a normal lane to see if the random person I get tomorrow knows how to do their job. I just hate it when I don't work somewhere and I know more about it then they do. I've been going through that for 2 months with Rogers. Keep having to explain their policy to them. I have a hard time trying to do it at the border when they have the control. Though hubby has said if no stamp tomorrow he's heading down there. They really don't want to see him.

Thanks for all of the responses. I didn't think I was in the wrong and you guys really confirmed it.

Sorry to hear about your irritating experience. I was told by the Nexus office not to do anything relating to my immigration and importation of my belongings in the Nexus lane. They told me it is frowned upon. I activated my CR-1 visa with only a suitcase and came back for the majority of my belongings a few weeks later with no problem. I am still taking my things across with me, but when I do, I use the regular lanes.

I think a lot of the time, the officers just don't want to deal with the extra paperwork it takes to activate these visas/ import cars and they try to avoid at all costs. I had a similar experience when I imported my car and they basically told me, "we're busy, come back another time, we don't want to deal with it."

Good luck on Saturday! I hope things go better for you!

Here is the link to the official information about importing belongings for up to 10 years after the 'importer's' arrival in the US - it is from 19 CFR section 148.52(d):

http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-...2.2&idno=19

It is from the electronic code of federal regulations. You can also check here to look at any other regulations in this general area:

Wow, that's precious Kathryn, thanks. If i try to articulate an interpretation from the 1st link in conjonction with the op's issue with the officers is that: they didn't believe she was really moving because she had an imported car or something like that?? or try to bring an imported car without paying tax??...hm!! then, if this is correct, the visa to be activated proof contradicts that...then the problem for them is they felt a contradiction if she tried the nexus line...Ok, then they could not accept the fact that she did a mistake by trying the nexus line for the visa...plus not much households stuff..plus the car...ok...in their mind they seemed to prefere not take risks...as one thing seemed for them to contradict the other...sorry for my english...

So they don't accept any mistakes in these situations...little mistakes should I say? but for the border protection that can be a big one...oh boy! oh boy!

Just to clarify I believe the 'gentleman' in the booth was too lazy to grab the pad of paper, write down why I was going to secondary, get off his @ss and stick it to my window. He didn't have to do anything other than that as everything else is taken care of by the people in the building not the booth. I also don't believe he heard anything about me wanting to import the car. After speaking to my husband about the conversation he had on the phone with whomever the officer in the nexus lane made a mega boo boo when he let me in yesterday. If he wasn't going to send me to secondary to activate my visa he should have denied me entry which he's basically not allowed to do as the US government in the big envelope is telling him I am admissible and there's no reason to reject me. I believe immigrating means that 'I' am coming to reside in the USA, not a bunch of stuff that I use is going to stay in a house here. So it was definately a case of someone being a mega jerk and mega lazy.

So today's mission comes with 3 tasks:

1. Enter the USA as a conditional resident (get the damn stamp)

2. Import my car

3. Get the name and badge number of my friend from yesterday :D

I'll keep you posted on how it all works out.

I actually crossed the Ambassador Bridge POE with my wife on June 5, 2007, and they were extremely helpful. We crossed in the middle of the week around 11pm, and I've noticed upon visiting my wife's parents that around that time most people are very helpful there, and there are even a few people who immigrated to the United States so they know the rules inside and out. If there's any way you can go around that time I'd highly recommend it as it's very quiet and people are more willing to help. When we've tried to cross during busier times we usually get a lot more problems as there are things on my wife's file that are still getting cleared up. Good luck!

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

I can under stand the nexus guys being a but flustered and not wanting to do it, but why didnt they just direct you over to the regualr lane? Totally unprofessional on their part!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
