Hockey hall of fame!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Toronto is a great city to be a tourist in. Queen St. is my ultimate favourite street in Toronto with shopping, bars and restaurants all around.

If you aren't going until next week you will miss one of my favs, Taste of the Danforth festival. Lots of great food everywhere in the downtown area!

If you go to toronto.com, you will get lots of info about what events are coming up and what you can do. But any night of the week you can walk down most streets in downtown toronto and hear live music and have a drink.

There is really so much to do, it is just up to what you guys enjoy.

I've stayed at many hotels in niagara falls but can't remember the last one I stayed at. I will say though that I've never stayed in a bad hotel there. I have stayed at the Fallsview Sheraton which was nice. I have stayed at the Imperial Hotel and Suites. Never had a bad room in NF.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Hi JelloShotGirl,

From my experiences of traveling over the border and of living in both Canada (Toronto) and the US (New York State), here are some simple tips for when you cross over into Canada for a visit. I hope these simple general tips which might help you on your trip:

-Generally, Canadians are nice and friendly people so don’t be afraid to ask for help.

-The Canadian side of the border is pretty relaxed and they don’t ask much most of the time, especially if you’re going on a short trip. Mostly they ask citizenship, purpose of trip, how long you’re going, and if you have any items to declare, and randomly check the trunks of some vehicles. Just tell the truth, and be honest with your answers

-To avoid a lengthy wait is to not go during rush-hours or long/holiday weekends. This also applies to driving on highways in Canada (especially on the QEW near Toronto). Also when in Toronto, it is best to take public transportation ("The Rocket"/TTC), as that's the fastest way to get from one point to the other in the city, especially during rush hours.

-The Peace Bridge (Buffalo, NY/ Fort Erie, Ontario) is usually the fastest bridge to get across. Bring enough change (about $3.50-$4.00) to pay at the toll booths there.

-Remember in Canada to drive in kilometers per hour (km), not miles per hour (mph), and you don’t want to get a speeding ticket for driving at the wrong speed in mph. For driving, the highways there are 100km per hour and local roads are 60km per hour.

-For purchases in Ontario, note that there is a 14% (GST and PST) sales tax on the items -Loonies=$1 Canadian coin, gold coloured with a loon and the Queen on it. Twoonies=$2 Canadian coin, silver and gold coloured with a polar bear and the Queen on it.

-Temperatures are measured in degrees Celsius instead of degrees Fahrenheit

-Words are spelt differently than American English. In Canada, some words are in British English (such as colour, centre, grey) instead. Some road signs and food packaging are in both English and French, as these are both the official languages of Canada

-There are Canadian foods and places to visit (especially in Toronto, where I used to live for many years) that I would recommend too, but I’m not sure as to what you and your family would prefer, based on your interests and needs. Let me know too if you would like more information regarding this, and with any other information about Canada for this and other visits you may have.

-Most importantly: Have fun! And yes, Canada is a great place to visit, indeed!
