"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Good question! I think the only people who should be allowed to vote for a tax increase are those whose taxes will go up as a result.

And I want a toilet seat made of solid gold but its just not on the cards ;)

Besides if that's fair then it should be "note vote = no taxes".

Since the rich consumes more resources than the poor, it's only fair if they pay more taxes.

A consumption tax instead of the income tax would be more fair, then.

Don't we have that already? Sales tax?

Abolish income taxes and raise sales taxes on goods and services.

That'll be a big problem. LOL. We need both consumption and sales tax in order for this to work.

Which means the poor get shafted out of affordability of products.

I wonder what hording all that cash does for the rich anyway. Its not like you can spend all that money all the time and actually come off as having needed it in the first place.

Bottom line is, making the rich pay a couple of extra pennies per $100 horded isn't going to be detrimental to them while maintaining their lavish lifestyles all the while those that are not rich would be getting untaxed a couple of extra pennies per $1 earned. Anyone not willing to see that clearly has an issue with keeping the absolute majority of the population financially afloat.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Totally. Can you imagine how much your TV would cost if they factor basically everything into it.... I imagine there will be a lot of people going back to 14" sets.

I've heard it before... having a VAT of close to 30% on products and no income tax. Quite a nice tax break for the wealthy AND a punch in the face to the poor that would have to stretch their money even more. So nice.

Probably a lot more crime as well.

Look at it on the bright side:

Wal Mart would probably go out of business.

Oh... then that would mean more unemployed folks.
