I am so freaking tired right now and just done with stressing about everything. I feel like no matter how prepared I was for Gareth to move here...it wasn't enough. I feel very tense most of the time. My job sucks right now. I recently found out about some co-workers "recreational activities" involved drug use on their lunch breaks. When I brought it to the attention of my boss, nothing was done about it. It has however made my work environment a bit hostile and stressful. I am trying to get another job, but the current job market isn't exactly ideal for job seekers. My car crapped out on me and had to be replaced. Our roommates also decided to get a foreign exchange student who will be arriving this Friday. I have very mixed feelings about that. Gareth is very antsy about getting his EAD and AOS settled. His flat hasn't sold yet and his savings runs out next month. I am completely stressed about not being able to pay the $2000 a month it will take to cover that plus our bills here. I don't make enough to do that. Also I have been having the most difficult time trying to get medical coverage for Gareth and me. I can get covered no problem, but getting him any kind of decent insurance is next to impossible. My work coverage sucks and costs an arm and a leg. If I took it, it would literally cost me to work here. I am feeling very overwhelmed at the moment. I apologize for ranting on here like this, but I just needed to get it out. Thanks.

Aww hun - I think there are a bunch of us who are all going through ten tons of ####### right now - it seems that no matter how many steps forward you take, you are always taking double the amount backward :(

Don't give up on the job hunt - you never know what will crop up - maybe get your resume online as well so potential employers can contact you - if you just need a change of pace/increased wages it might mean you get a crappier job in the meantime but then you can keep looking in a less hostile environment. Are there any little jobs you can do together, like babysitting? I know it sounds pretty dire but every little helps and it won't be like you're working two jobs and not ever seeing G.

How long is the foreign exchange student coming over for? I know that seems like another thing to deal with but try and look on it as a positive - it might even really help Gareth as there will be more than one "foreigner" in the house  It could be a really good experience although if your house mates didn't consult you first then that is a bit out of order...

I went with http://www.americanvisitorinsurance.com/ - I managed to get a 30 day medical insurance for about $30 which wasn't too bad... need to renew it actually

As for the flat, is there no way he can rent it out in the meantime? Where is it? Where has he listed it? It might sound crappy but even if you are struggling now, as soon as the flat sells that will be a bit of a cash injection if you have to rely on credit cards (like we have - $2000 and counting  )

Things will brighten up - it does suck right now though :( Pop on into the July thread and have a good moan - you'll realise that there are a bunch of us all going through the same thing right now and it really sucks!!!

That's a good suggestion. I have been sending out my resume to just about anybody who will look at it. At least where I am at now I have my own office and just do my work with my door shut all day. It doesn't change the tension that is in the office most of the day. I will have to see about posting my resume online. Thanks for the idea.

We were told that there was going to be an exchange student and asked about it last week. We were given the impression it wouldn't be till January and also it would be for 6 months. She comes this Friday and is here for a year. I feel like it is all really rushed. It could be really awesome and a good experience. I am trying to think about it that way. However, I don't particularily care for teenagers that much. I find most of them to be irritating so that will be a challenge. She is coming from Venezuela. The good part is I understand Spanish fairly well and can speak a little. I am trying to think of it as a way to increase my Spanish vocab.

Thanks for the website for insurance. I will look into. Also thanks for you kind words. You always cheer me up :) After I read your message, Gareth called me to tell me his EAD is approved. I hope this means a change in the mood is around the corner. I really hope so :) Thank you again.

I found this site handy when I was at home in the UK - it looks pretty good and when I get EAD I will use it as a starting point (among many others I am sure!)

Great news about his EAD though! At least he will be able to look for work now so that even if it takes him a while to find a job, he won't feel like he can't do anything :)

Thank you fo the website! I am going to check it out when I get home tonight.

Gareth is very excited about his EAD. I think 3 months of being at home was more than enough for him.

Thank you again for the advice :)

Oh I'm sorry you're having such a shitty time!

Having tension at work is awful... I've been in a similar situation many times before and when you're unhappy at work, it pretty much takes over the rest of your life, or at least seems to. Getting up and pulling yourself into the office is the hardest thing to do, but just remember that it WILL all blow over even if you don't manage to find yourself another job. Things like this always feel so horrible at the time but eventually people will move on. Plus you know you were in the right for reporting them to your boss, even if nothing was done. Take comfort in the fact that you did the right thing, and that you don't need their approval for you to carry on with your work.

Good news about Gareth's EAD! Another wait is over! :D

Don't worry - his flat WILL sell! Things like that seem to be taking a long time nowadays but the money will come in.

Good luck at your orientation! Don't be nervious....I am sure it will be fine.

Gareth is having a hard time adjusting to California summers as well. Poor thing. He sits in the house in front of a fan with the AC going. I think it's going to take him awhile to get used to the heat.

Thanks Gemmie! The work part is really the worst. I really like my job, but the tension here is really hard to deal with especially when I have to work on projects with the two co-workers I told on. To say that they are not pleased with me would be an understatement. Fortunately I don't have to work with them too often. It just makes the enviroment in the office very unpleasant at times and they both can be very hostile towards me as well. I mostly just ignore them and avoid them as much as possible. It just is very sad because I used to really enjoy coming into work.

I keep telling myself his flat will sell. I hope soon.

Thank you again!!

Remind me - what part of Cali are you in again? Surely it can't be hotter than Palm Springs?!?!?!

We live in Sacramento. It gets pretty hot here in the summer...however I believe it is hotter in Palm Springs.

OOh - I have passed through Sacramento but never stopped :) How hot does it get? It has hit 115 here this summer but now it tends to stay around 105-110. Every now and then it will dip below 100 but not often!!!
