That hardly seems fair. It's like testing a Brit for beer or an Italian for wine!

Very much a stereotype - Not every Jamaican smokes

But again, the fools before us ruined it.

And, beer & wine is not illegal in either country.

There is a drug test? I read that the medical exam did not include a drug test. Was your experience different? When was your fiance given a drug test?

What?! Medical says "no drug test"? Where does it say that. I wonder if they only test for drugs in certain countries where people are known for doing certain drugs. Isnt that against the law if they say they are not testing you, test you anyway....without your consent..and then use it against you? How horrible is this. Can you imagine so many people who may not have VJ or any prior knowledge of this visa stuff, go and take their medical having no idea they are gonna get tested for marijuana and then come back positive. Plus the whole admiting to smoking thing....I would have never known that was an issue if i hadnt been on VJ.....jeesh.....these people are so prejedice its crazy!

Yes so true...i wouldn't have known about the admitting stuff if it wasn't for VJ...My husband was telling me how two friends of his who are brothers got an interview because their father filed for them and one them admitted to the doctor that he smoked marijuana thinking it was no big deal because the doctor seemed really "cool" with him but i guess that was the doctor's way of making the dude fill comfortable to open up to him...well it backfired and the doctor wrote in his notes that he admitted smoking to marijuana and put it in the sealed envelope to send with the medical to the embassy...long story short only one brother was approved and the other brother who admitted was denied and they told him it was because he admitted to smoking and he has a 3 years ban...I would have died if that was me especially knowing that my other brother got approved and I'm stuck for another 3 years...he said his friend father is still going to file for him again after the three years is up but it is going to be such another long wait since his friend is over 21...

yeah, its such a set up and illegal I would think. There is NO REASON a DOCTOR has to ask that question. I can see if they want to kno if u smoked cus they need to do some medical test relating to people who smoke ganga. But there is no medical necessity for them to ask that question. The CO is perfectly capable to ask this at the interview. They ask it at medical because the person is more inclined to answer truthfully cus they think it has something to do with their medical exam....but it doesnt. I hate to scream racism....well actually I dont care....but this is such a set up if I aint never heard one. A person could have smoked YEARS ago and been stopped, and THIS is what gets them denied. Then there are those who are blatantly trying to use their SO and they get in?

I read there was no drug test on a website that had general info about getting a K1 visa. It was not Jamaica specific, so yes, they are picking and choosing which countries medical exams have the test. After reading here (thank god I did!) I anonymously called one of the approved doctors and asked. She says that they do test if they choose to, and anyone could be tested. It is the doctor's decision. It sounds like a gamble so quiting before the medical seems the only safe bet. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found this website.

oh man, so now its the doctors decression. So the doctor can just look at someone and streotype them to need a drug test. How unfair is this? There should be a standard.....either test or dont test. I'm glad you found VJ.

Ganga is illegal. That's why they ask. They also ask if you've been arrested. And, they ask if you are married. All of these questions deal with legalities. There is nothing racist about asking any of these questions.

Come on JG! r u kidding me? A doctor cannot arrest you. The CO needs to ask that question, not the doctor. You have to know this is a set up.

No, but if they are testing at the medical, it only makes sense to ask the question there.

I have never heard of anyone comming out of Jamaica that was not drug testing before comming to the US. Rules may be different for other countries. If they ever move to using the (hair) instead of blood or urine...oh, Lord is all I can say. I have friends that immigrated to England and they were not drug tested...so, must be a requirement for the US. Even if I I didn't know about this site...it's just known. My SO knew he was going to be tested for drugs and I never mentioned it to him. That was one of the first things he asked me. I've never known of anyone who was immigrating to the US who did not know they were going to be given a drug test at the medical. If he does some...now, is a good time to stop. Some people stop a month or two before and were fine. My girlfriend had her interview 2 weeks ago and she now has a 3 year ban...because someone missinformed her.

What does that mean, Tre? How long did they stop before?

Marlita.....I was not saying it was right. I was just saying that is the logical place to ask the question. In my mind anyhow. I think if they are going to drug test it should be for every single country. That's the fair way. (I do agree, Tre, about the hair. There would be a lot of really close shaved JA men and women walking around the US for a while!) But that being said, I have read a lot of other country's regulations that I am glad the JA/US embassy does not follow. Each embassy seems to be just a little different.

Sorry Master..I'm not sure..but be ready for a drug test.blood and or urine

Just for example... if someone is a very rare smoker, and take a few inhales one day after many months of not smoking... would 2 months since the last smoking be sufficient to pass the drug test, whether blood or urine?
