Hi

I have got the K1 visa. My fiancee lives in PA while siblings in NY. I can either land at Chicago or JFK (NY). Do I have to go straightaway to my fiancee i.e. land at Chicago and proceed to her ? Secondly, do they provide EAD upon landing only at JFK and no other airport ?

thanks.

You can land anywhere in the US, since there aren't any specific POEs you need to go through.

For now, the only airport that we know of that gives out the EAD stamp is JFK.

Yes, you can take another flight leg after you enter a POE with no more customs to worry about.

No, JFK is not the only airport that gives out the EAD stamp. So far, I haven't seen anyone post about success/denial at O'Hare in Chicago, though. There's a thread about the stamp here. Should you go Chicago, I'm sure we'd all appreciate if you let us know how it goes!

Best of luck to you and your SO, and welcome to the USA!

Thanks Aubrey and Diana for the replies.

Suppose I land at Chicago and don't get EAD, what would be the effect of it ?I would lose the advantage of working in USA right from the day I enter there, right ?

I also heard that seeking EAD takes time.. a bit long time ?

The temporary EAD you would receive at the POE (boy that's a lot of abbreviations) would only be valid for 90 days...the period of validity for the K-1 visa. After the 90 days you would no longer be eligible to work until or unless you have received the EAD from filing for AOS. Right now the time to receive the EAD when filing for AOS is about 3-4 months.

Also you would need a social security number to work and this takes several weeks after you arrive to be able to even apply for.

So long and short it's really not worth it to get the EAD at the POE since you would only be eligible to work for a few weeks and then you would have to quit the job.
