there was a first movie? :P

They did one in 1998 - to bridge the gap between season 5 & 6. Season 6 is when the series really went awry in terms of quality - and then David Duchovny left, I think after season 7.

I've been rewatching it too - its interesting when you get to season 4 that the tone of the show totally changes and becomes really graphically gory (including one really nasty episode with possessed plastic surgeons - and another where a man and his wife are beaten into a bloody pulp by inbred freaks). Presumably something to do with the producers or the network - but its really noticeable.

Also it didn't occur to me how off the reservation Mulder gets on occasion - beating suspects and threatening people with his gun. Not exactly FBI procedure I would guess...

I miss Scully & Mulder. I want to see it sooooooooooooo bad. I don't even care if it's good or not.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I also liked how the first movie seemed to tie up a lot of loose ends on the show. There was too much going on and the show was all over the place. After that they seemed to get it back on track.

My favorite shows were always the ones where Mulder showed his sense of humor. The one with the Side Show Freaks was my all time fave. I saw these guys do a show in Edmonton- it was awesome.

There's a lot of loose ends in the first movie as well though - but it does seem like a continuation of the series (though Mulder getting from Dallas to the Antarctic inside of 24 hours was pushing it IMO). This new film doesn't feel like the X-Files at all, and the story is just dull - nothing really paranormal happens at all - its like "is that it!?".

At least Robert T1000 Patrick was nowhere to be seen...

Apparently they want to do another movie in 2012 to tie up the Alien Conspiracy storyline - although the box office figures were pretty poor for this and it got buried by The Dark Knight.
