To in to network and internet connections. Make sure you uncheck the box for always dialing a connection, then look for your cable connection and see if you need to click on repairing that connection.

Dean

it sounds like that's a Network connection issue. Since you reloaded XP it has no memory of your cable connection. Try loading the cable software from scratch... otherwise a geek will have to manually set up your network connections at home (which is what the software is ejemm... supposed to do).

luck!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Almaty,

This is possibly that your network card isn't installed correctly. If you go into Device Manager, and click on that question mark it must be your network device driver that is missing. If that is the case, you must find that driver and install it. Missing this drivers, and trying to connect to the internet may inadvertantly make Windows think you're trying to access the modem. Hence, you get the Dial-Up Connection dialogue. Give it a try!

Device Manager is located when you use the right mouse button, and click on My Computer ----> Properties.

I hope this helps.

Oh yeah, Geek Squad is will want to charge you before you get a solution. I used to work with them in the past back in college. They do get paid a little above the minimum wage, about 9-11 dollars/hour. If you're a field agent, you may get paid more. Not only that, most problems that deals with testing, they send it out to Chicago Service Center. That is why you have to wait 2-3 weeks to get your machine back. Most problems occurs because the user don't have an anti-virus installed on their machines, or that they have no idea what they're doing. Then, they would yell at the Geek Squad that the machine they bought is a defect. I cannot believe that.

You should get a wireless router for your Internet connection. Much easier to connect to your ISP, then you can do wireless for your laptop(s) as well as your main PC. And setting up Windoze for a local network is far easier than have it manage the connection to your ISP.

Have you reset you cable modem recently? If so make sure your PC is on when you do it. Sometimes the modems needs to verify a MAC address (a physical connection) on the user side to register properly.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
