That was a nice post, Chris. :)

I know how you feel.. I've never been asked WHY I do this, but I have gotten those "looks" when people find out and you know that they're thinking it. It's hard, it really is. I just tell myself (and sometimes them) that I don't care what people think because I've already heard every negative comment you could give, and I know what we have is real.

One of the things that I try to ignore are the comments from friends/family that are sometimes hurtful.

Yesterday, my best friend said "I'm seeing Steve tonight, I miss him, I haven't seen him in ages. Two days! " I'm still feeling really down about being apart from Bill because it's only been 2 weeks, and I have another 8 until I can see him again. I just wondered why she said that when she obviously knows all the details of our situation. My other friends sometimes do it too, things such as "I miss Aaron, I hate Mondays/Tuesdays when I don't get to see him." I know they don't intend to upset me, and they have the right to miss their boyfriends. But it's still hard, when I try to carry on with life amongst the heartache.

I love the Goo Goo Dolls though, and that song especially. In fact I listen to all kinds of songs and think of Bill. He tells me not to, but it makes me feel better in a way. I imagine hugging him at the airport when it's all done, and I think of his funny facial expressions, his smile. :) Flutter flutter.

First Gemmie, that's a totally sweet shark in your avatar... second... if I was one of your friends I'd do that too... I'd constantly be ooooh, I miss so and so, it's been 20 minutes... except well, it's been a few months here now, what happens when you are getting that from VJ members and your local friends, at some point we're going to b posting PoE experiences and stories like... "I woke up today and told my wife she was beautiful, gave her a hug and shed a tear"... skip the steamy hot section here ..."and went to work where I won't see her until lunchtime, I will miss her so much for those 3 hours"...

My brother always asks if I'm still getting married, I'm not really sure what to think of this other than he's not the kind of person who would be willing to wait through the immigration process, but mostly people kind of get a dumbfounded look on their face when they ask when she is coming here, and I tell them I don't know, maybe *x months*. Either way though th waiting sucks.

To be honest Maliciant I think Gemmie will enjoy those stories (being understandably jealous of course) simply because she will have known what we have gone through and has been with us the whole way.

I know that as soon as an August filer gets an NOA2 I will be so happy, one because I know it will be everyone else's turn next and 2 because these are the people I have have been sharing this journey with.

I will be in sanely jealous also and wishing that it was my NOA2, but right now I would settle for the NOA1... lol

I love how everyone here thinks I will be jetting off to the states very soon (as in the next couple of weeks) and they have this horrified expression on their faces when I go "well if it all goes smoothly and to the timeline I currently have should be Feb or Mar hopefully"....

oooh i alaways get asked if i am still getting married, and it really does my head in, YESSSS i am still getting married would you still be asking me that question if he lived just down the street lol.

Gemmie i am sure your friends dont mean to say it hurtful, and are probably upset by it when they do say it, they will just be talking normally and then realise what they say and its too late its already out there foot in the mouth situation that we all been in at sometime. Being apart from your loved one is a new experience for you but it is also new to them too and they may not know how to handle it and what to say, its better that they r just being themselves than being awkward around you and not talk bout their loved ones fearing they r going to upset you, i hope i make sense i know what i am trying to say but it doesnt always come out the way i want it to.

First Gemmie, that's a totally sweet shark in your avatar...

It's a dolphin. Me and my friends randomly went to the beach and bought an inflatable dolphin, then went into the sea with it and messed around. It was one of the best days ever.

second... if I was one of your friends I'd do that too...

As Mara said, I'll be happy to read those kinda things from you guys. Partly because I almost feel a connection with other August filers so it's good to see you happy after watching you be so patient, and partly because I know that my time is coming, just a few months later. The reason it makes me sad when my local friends say it is because I'm trying to adjust to being away and I feel insanely jealous whenever they mention missing their boyfriend who they see every night.

It's only when they mention the "missing".. if they're telling me about an awesome date they had with their loved one, I love hearing all about it. And I especially love when we sit around talking about our partners and the funny things they do, as they have so much in common! I'm quite lucky that my friends take him just as seriously as though he were living in the same city, they don't ask if we're still getting married, they just ask how he's doing... in fact, I've just realised how great and supportive they are whilst typing this post.

Donna, you're right, I would rather they carry on acting normal around me, it's more my own problem than theirs. I can't help but feel a spark of jealousy and sadness sometimes, because I miss having my own loved one around.

Either way though th waiting sucks.

oooh i alaways get asked if i am still getting married, and it really does my head in, YESSSS i am still getting married would you still be asking me that question if he lived just down the street lol.

I can sympathise.. my friends are cool about it, but my family are another matter. My brother too is always asking "so when are you getting married, what's going on with this wedding thing?" as if things have suddenly changed in a week, or my dad will ask IF I'm moving to the US... I think the same as you, mostly that people wouldn't be willing to go through the process, or they assume that I've given up on waiting, I don't know.

Best thing to do (in my experience) is to give minimal information because people tend to forget about the process (too complicated, remember when you learned about it for the first time) and just want to know IF and WHEN things are happening.

hey, I am not sure who it was, but wasn't one of you guys saying that Igor's list takes the people that are out of the "normal" processing times, which is now 6 months, out of the list? lol, not that it matters, but it would be sweet to see my number jump another 10 spots or so.

Oops, now that you say it, it's obvious it's a dolphin... dolphins can be cool too though... (SHARK MURDERS!!!)...

And that 6 month processing time is a nice change, it shows that they have some confidence in processing applications quickly, at least in comparison to before. Since any time they fall behind that point they are going to get calls from people about the status of their case (and can't just wave them off if they are out of the filing range). I'm pretty sure that igor's list has some automatic way of knowing the previous filing dates, though I guess since it only changed once a month it could have been manually added, there will have to be a change to the program that shows the list for it to use the 6 month time limit, when it happens we'll all definitely change positions on the list (assuming it happens, they may want to keep it at 9 months or whatever).
