Hi, my fiance is from Chile and things in the Peruvian embassy are done similar. I imagine you are the petitioner, so yes it is comon that they get that info with a cover letter saying all that you need to bring to the interview. She has to gather some docs. and bring them to the interview and some others she has to send to the embassy before the interview. They didn't send her an affidavit of support form?. If you are going to be there for the interview then bring the affidavit with you!. Here on VJ is all the info on how to fill the forms (Click Example Forms) and if you got more questions I am here to help.

That's good to hear thank you for the help, she has a friend who is filing a K-3 visa telling her that she really doesn't need to send anything to the embassy before the interview eventhough she read to me that there were some documents saying "imediatamente" hay que enviar tal y tal cosa o no pueden seguir procesando el caso... Do you think her friend is mistaken or did you send the thing in right away. Yes I am flying down next month, to be there with her and she's not leaving my side again. Do you know if we can do the interview in Spanish? She is still learing english. Her friend also told her that we need a letter from someone else saying that they can support her as a back-up. I have a full-time job that pays pretty well so I don't need to worry about that right?

I´m already against the next war.

N1Krobe:

I am pretty sure she has to send the checklist where they explain what docs. she needs to gather and one of the forms with a picture (I think form DS156). Contact somebody in the peruvian forum that will tell you better for I am talking how things get done in Chile. Also what I know for sure is that if she has a child that will travel with her she has to bring the child to the interview, I had a peruvian friend in a forum that told me that, then I lost contact with her.

Her friend is filing k-3 so things might be different, don't go by what people tell you, have her read the letter she got from the embassy, we got a pretty confusing letter cause in form 156K it says to attach birth certif, divorce certif, etc etc, but the cover letter said only send the form so we did, my fience only filled out the forms and send them, he kept the birth certif. etc etc and he will bring these docs. to the interview.

Letter to support her as back up???? maybe her petitioner didn't have enough to meet the poverty guidelines and she used a joint sponsor, you don't need that just fill the I130 and attach what they require which is letter of employment and bank letter. Also find out if they sent her a I130 that needs to be notarized. The new form doesn't need notarization but they sent my fiance the one that requires notarization and that's the one I will bring to interview.

Finally the interview is definitely going to be in spanish!!!! don't worry the consulate in Peru must have spanish speaking consular officers.

Been a long time everyone. Sorry for being absent. How's everybody?

Just got back from and incredibly great 10 days in Japan with my fiancee. It was incredibly hard to come back here, especially since we are still waiting for our NOA2, not even a touch since 8/26 :( Frustrating to see Oct approvals when we Aug. peeps are still waiting. But we are doing our best to remain positive ... when this whole excruciating wait is done, we will be stronger for it.

You can't send the affidavit of support over the internet, it requires an original signature so it's snail mail or take it to her in person, a copy isn't good enough.

Yesterday was a small adventure for me and my wife... it was the day we decided to go to SSA offices, because I can't add her to my health insurance without a SSN... she wanted to ride a bus to get familiar with them here so we walked to the bank (about a mile and a half the opposite direction of the SSA office) to get cash and exact change for the bus... we thought we'd catch the bus going west towards the SSA offices, we started walking from the bank and didn't see any bus stops for quite a while, we walked past our apartment (well, the road they are on) and hadn't seen a bus stop for the west bound buses or even a bus, but I was sure we'd find a stop sooner or later... we never did, but the bus we were wanting to catch did finally drive by us when we had almost walked up to the SSA office...

In the SSA office they checked us for cell phones, presumably bombs, weapons of mass destruction and finger nail files, then gave us a number, when it was called we went up to the window, they entered some info and told us our name would be called since it was a k-1, in the end we were there too early so her information wasn't in the computer, so we'll go back next monday, oh well... the big rush to get the SSN is more for getting her on my health insurance before the 'just married' period ends otherwise I think I'd have to wait for the open enrollment period... ugh... I hate insurance companies...

And since she still wanted to ride a bus, it was time to try again, on an east bound bus... we found a bus stop fairly easy, and even waited a few minutes for a bus at the first bus stop we found... but I think she decided it was better to walk and stay warmer (by walking) than to sit and suck on some wind... we ended up walking home, I think we saw a bus when we were almost home... the mass transit here is kind of sucky, epecially compared to a major city and even more so when compared to manila which is a major city in a country where few people drive and most rely on the mass transit... anyway, we'll probably manage to finally catch a bus this weekend, to go down town and mostly wander around, explore a bit (I don't go down town much either so while I'll recognize things I don't know my way around that well yet, we could definitely get lost for a short while). Long story short, the bus system here sucks, you can walk faster than the buses, though if you know the bus schedule (when they actually show up at specific stops) then it's not that bad, unless you want to go east/west much... the bus routes all seem to think that everyone wants to go north and south and even after they re-arranged their busses it's 3 different buses (most of which probably run once an hour) to get about 3 and a half miles to my brothers house from my place (and we live on a major road!).

In the end though, in manila while it's easy to find a bus/jeep/tricycle to get onto to get where you are going... it's often a very slow progress, they don't drive very fast there, the roads are very twisting and in poor condition, the traffic tends to be thick... etc.... so in the end other than costing a lot more, there might not be much of a difference other than you need to know the times of the bus schedules more here so you know when to be at a stop... luckily with all of 12 or so routes that's possible...

Oh yeah, married life is good so far, the only down side is I don't seem to have enough time for everything... part of that is immigration stuff, part of that is oops, I don't have a place for her clothes and have to go get one and put it together... I imagine (and this might be pure fantasy) that at some point that'll change and I'll have a little time to work on my side business, get back to learning new things, exercise, etc... but at least for a while I'm pretty busy...
