I will repeat... LOW INCOME IS NOT A REASON FOR AN RFE!!! Income is not an issue until the embassy stage, USCIS only cares about having met in the last two years, that you both are legally able to marry, and that you filled out the forms properly (and on this last one they can get pretty ####### about blank fields or writing N/A instead of NONE). Anyway, you should have the hard copy with instructions tomorrow, it's almost always something minor such as sending passport style photo's of you and your fiancee or including some divorce decree or something like that...

HelloWorld08: I think if anything the bad economy would lower the poverty guidelines a little, they don't exist just for the sake of preventing poor people from petitioning foreigners into our country, even though they are used as a guidelines for that, poverty is a relative thing. The bad economy will lower the cost of goods and therefore the cost of living. I don't think the economy will remain an issue long enough that the poverty guidelines are likely to adjust though, I think the economy would have to remain in a serious slump for at a minimum of two years before we'd see a change to the poverty guidelines. The economy will most likely make it more difficult for immigrants to get a job here, particularly if they are lacking strong english skills or have some other issues that make them hard to hire here. Generally though I think america is still at a point where anyone who really wants to work and isn't too picky about the job can find work fairly quickly, the day mcdonalds isn't accepting applications is the day our economy is in serious trouble!

Oooh, it's been a while since I've been king... I DEMAND COOKIES!!!! (Seriously, I shouldn't be allowed to post before breakfast).

That also depends where you live and your background.

My fiance has been looking for a full-time job for about 2 years now and I can count on one hand how many times he's even gotten a response. He lives in the suburbs where there aren't many businesses and moving closer to the city isn't an option when you don't have the money to move (Catch 22). He's a college graduate too, but unfortunately no one will hire him in his field without experience (another Catch 22); and McDonalds won't take him because he's over-qualified and the liklehood of him leaving the moment a better offer (i.e. anything) comes in is way too high.

Simply put, you need to catch a lucky break sometimes.

Hello Everyone

Just wanted to let you all know that we were approved on January 16, 2009. Went to the mail box today and the approval notice was there. We never got any touches or notices sent to us through email. It's been 155 days! I tell you it is so, so hard to be patient and wait. Can anyone tell me what our next steps are?

Hey I am the Queen of page 308!!!

Hey Des Love Cindy !

Congratulation

Did you get approve without any touch and notices through email ? Me+ my friend apply for K-1 ,our fiances sent I-129F to VSC betaween 8-11 August/2008. We both got Noa1 the same date on 2008/8/19 and also same date VSC cash check on 2008/08/14 . We are waiting for Noa2 about 161 days since they cash our check.

On 23/01/2009 my friend's fiance sent fax to congressman to check his case .Later the congressman called him back that his case approved on 21/01/2009. BUt my friend didnt get any touch and notic sent through email.I hope my friend get really Noa2 and offcourse I hope I get Noa2 too :D:D

It won't be much longer! I thought they would never do anything with my case and I was on the phone with my Tilac then I told her ...wait before we hang up, I want to check USCIS website and I saw the date change! Next day, I got an email saying they wanted further evidence for SOMETHING but would not tell me what...I called and they didn't know so I have to wait for the latter telling me WHAT THEY WANT!

Meanwhile, I think I'll have her go to Isaan and get her Bai Lub Long Sot from the Amphur (at least she can do that since the time is close).--this is the single; eligible to marry paper.

I really want to go there....NOW! I'm having a craving for spiced grasshoppers and Pad Thai and....beef and sticky rice... and hot hot hot humid weather and sun...maybe my 4th trip there I'll see the ocean.

Hey ! I know how much you miss Pat Thai and Sticky rice.. My fiance miss that food too. BUT he most miss me :dance::D:D

Well, let your Teerak *Tukta * go to Amhur to get Bai Rub Rong Sot, and wish you both get Noa2 very soooon

:)

Your thai is pretty good but one advice from me please learn about R and L in thai. Because many thai people have problem to say R and L ..

very slow week for CSC :( and i marked 160 days today....i wait for the 180 and then we'll start sending doc's to everyone for our case if we're not approved yet...

happy sunday all

and Congratz for the approval/s :)

I am planning the same strategy, waiting till 180 day and then raising hell. I hope that i have it before then.

Count me in too, this is my game plan as well. Quietly wait it out until the 180th mark, then raise HELL.

But I really think at least for you Dani and for me that it is just a matter of the next burst of approvals from CSC and we will be in that bunch. Approvals were barely trickling from both VSC and CSC, but as soon as we get a week of 20+, I think we will be in one of those, so it is not much longer...

Gemmie: If your man can't get hired without work experience and he doesn't have work experience, he should definitely volunteer to work as an internet just to get that experience somewhere. In most fields this isn't too hard to do and most colleges/vo-tech places make it a point of providing some kind of placements for people to get that first bit of experience, obviously this is a sacrifice and really is just a continuation of your education. Now I'm sure there are some exceptions, such as people who are trying to work in fields like nuclear physics or areas where security or safety are so vital they can't just trust some fresh monkey to get in the mix...

The suburbs... you make it sound like a whole different country that is totally independant from any city... there aren't really any jobs in the suburbs, the suburbs is basically a bunch of homes placed just far enough from some city that they are going to be reasonably affordable, the down side to living in the suburbs is everyone's house looks the same and you have to commute to where ever you work (most likely in a city!). If transportation to and from work is an issue then it's like anything else with jobs, you have to fix that problem one way or another.

Anyway, besides mcdonalds, temp employment agencies are all over the place and if you can type 35 wpm accurately, or do physical labor, they can probably get you work, they aren't so great at placing people in professional positions but this isn't about getting a dream job, this is about earning money to survive while you hunt for that dream job. If you still want to apply at mcdonalds, just neglect to include all your specialized training, you don't need to show your masters degree on your resume if you don't want to, but really, I don't think mcdonalds would actually not hired someone based on being overqualified, it's mcdonalds, they hire teenagers and other people who are not likely to stick around regardless of education, and that of course goes for almost any low paying no real skills required kind of jobs. The economy is worse in various parts of the country but I'm telling you, if you can't find work you are not trying hard enough or are unwilling to accept (or probably even apply) for jobs that are 'beneath' you. If he's collecting unemployement or something along those lines and he just can't find a job that'll pay more than unemployement I can see not taking a ####### job, but since I know you are both young and he's apparently got a lot of education, I doubt he has much work experience in any field (and therefore probably not even able to get unemployment).

Anyway, just my opinion, if you do live in a town that's small enough it's possible there really aren't any jobs, but seriously, if your town has suburbs, that's not likely! It's tax season and every year I get to see a few people dancing on the side of the road wearing ridiculous outfits and dancing around trying to get people into the tax offices near my work... it's a degrading job, but probably pretty fun if you like to dance and get honked at while wearing a ridiculous outfit (statue of liberty or uncle sam for example) and seriously, it looks way more fun than "People holding up signs advertising going out of business signs for some store" which looks to be the most incredibly boring job ever... those people wanted a job bad enough to find it though that's for sure! Back to the regularly scheduled talk of k-1 related stuffs.

Ok girls I have a problem that needs solving!!!

I am in the process of buying dresses for my bridesmaids, of which I have three, My sister, my cousin and my sister-in-law to be. I have chosen to fork out the cash for their dresses to help them out (as my sister and cousin have to travel overseas and my sister-in-law to be interstate).

I have been told by my sister that she doesnt think she will be there, but isnt sure and wont know until July (we are having a late August wedding). The dresses i am looking at, at the moment arent cheap @330AU a pop, should I go a head and order 3 dresses now (4 month wait) on the premiss she might be there, say thats great if you make it, but you wont be part of the wedding party, and simply get 2, or so I wait 3 or 4 months and buy the number of dresses I need from somewhere like David's bridal or the Dessy Group once I get to the states?????

Help me! Chris is really not helpful at all!

My friend is going out there to "date" her friend (she works at a sweatshop; never considered the possibility of marrying farang)...it's all going well. He told her Pom Rak kuhn yesterday (too shy to tell me but you know how Thai women talk and she told me "your friend fall in love already before he see her" LOL! I wish them both well. They're close in age..she's not looking for big money and he's not rich so it sounds like legitimate true love! He sends her a little money for English lessons and calls her every day. I hear wedding bells (or the tacky music for an Isaan wedding)....either one will do!

Things are so crazy up in Isaan I'm bringing a bolt down safe to put the sin sot (gold, cash) in before the wedding "ceremony" since we can't "really" get married doing a K1 visa, it will be a ceremony so the relatives can take part in her leaving. I'm nervous as hell..she's cool as a cucumber (apparently Thais don't worry about anything until it's really happening...get their hopes up for what?"

I can't read/write Thai (that was a cut and paste, by the way--I cheated)! I also messed up....Pom Mi Penha gap RFE jing jing! (mai pom tongkan)

I jsut want to get over there and enjoy the 90 degree weather! It's 25 degrees here (oh that's right...the US hasn't come up to this decade using Celsius yet) Ughhh!

Buy them in Thailand for 88 a pop! We're bringing back out clothes (I'm renting clothes for 10 people...still about the price of a tux rental here, so we're buying ours for whoever will be in the real wedding in the US.

I'm all about small wedding....like my fiancee's family says: "OK, everyone go to party, eat (go to the restroom) and nothing after." I completely agree. It seems most the focus will be on photos and the stuff that matters (gold, cash)..that's what's really what matters to us all (maybe not brides, though) isn't it?

If you've ever seen an Isaan wedding, draw one up on youtube; they're nothing like I've ever seen in my life and I'm sure our ceremony will be just as tacky and just as fun the same. Marching down a dirty dusty road with a boom box (or a truck with speakers hanging all over it) playing the SE Asia version of Bluegrass jams while everyone dances on the way walking to the bride's house. I think it will be memorable, extremely fun and something I wouldn't trade for the world. I told her I wanted the music (when else can i dance like a numbskull in the middle of the street and fit in)? She'll be dressed up Geisha sort-of with wood thingies in her hair, powdered face and she'll look like a little Thai doll! I'm jsut happy they have an outhouse (3 years ago they didn't even have one of those)! I'm all in, though-can't wait! it will be nice to work them out of poverty, too...get them an enclosed house and running water. Ohhhh, wish our economy was doing better...I really do!
