My dad has taken up a new hobby of bad mouthing anything and all things american, they are stupid, dont look after their own people, have no welfare system, have no jobs, don't know what red rooster is, have too many homeless people, have to many unemployed people, etc. Doesn't matter what it is but he always turns to me and finishes with the line "Why the hell would you want to live there" Or " We really are the lucky country, I know I wouldnt want to leave!"

Starting to drive me really nuts...

Every statement above happens to every country in the world, some country is worst

Yep... but he thinks Australia is perfect.

That's harsh, Mara!

I'm guessing it's out of resentment because they're hurt that we're leaving.. my brother reacted all shocked when I mentioned that I'm leaving in June/July. He was like "WHAT?? I can't believe it.." I think he was just hoping we would change our minds or not stay together through all this time, even though he knew about the K1. He then said that I "better not leave before his birthday" and a few weeks later, his girlfriend is pregnant and he tells me that he feels he needs to do something with his life. Hmm..

I don't think families realise how it feels on our ends..

They think that we just leaving them and its not fair, they dont really understand how torn we feel now, and will most like continue to feel for the first 12 months after our move. Its nice to know that there are other people who are having the same issues and feelings about the sitution yay VJ!

Feeling a little crappy this weekend. I miss my fiance so much since I left him last week.. and what makes it worse is the lack of understanding from family and some friends. My brother told me the other day that me and my fiance are "just a test" as long distance relationships don't usually work out, and in the past has said that we're not going to be together permenantly so I shouldn't interfere in his life, job etc.. it makes me so angry, especially since they've met and hung out together a few times.

Have you ever told your brother he was a presumtive a-hole and can quit giving out the advice he learned from watching ricki lake or maury or whatever day time talk show he watched and then twisted the screwball advice to match your own situation? Cause now might be a good time to tell him that. Also, you should tell him that short guys like him have a high chance of dying of prostate cancer so he should probably just quit trying to live... Long distance relationships pretty much are doomed to failure if they will always be LDR... but uh... if you have actual fairly solid plans to move to be together, then it won't be a LDR anymore... what does your test become then? (and then I read your next post where you mention his girlfriend and his wife? Unless you are referring to the same person as a girlfriend and wife... I think that's actually permission to stab him to death for giving you relationship advice!).

Chris & Mara: Australia is great, I certainly understand why they'd wonder what the heck you see in america... even though pretty much all of the example statements aren't true (maybe those programs aren't as good as the australian versions but I don't really know that...). The important thing to remember about australian pride... is america said hey, can we test nukes on your soil, and australia said yes... even better, I think they'd let us do it again (if we aren't still testing). I don't 100% know for sure that we really did test nukes there, I got the info from an aussie, and you know how wonkers those aussies are (and that was over 10 years ago and both of us were young and dumb enough to probably believe an urban myth which is possibly the case here). So... uh... how about this, we don't have like the most deadly version of every insect, snake, alligator, sting ray, jelly fish, dinosaur, whatever, you name it... the most deadly form of everything lives in australia. That's why america stays friendly with australia... we don't want a care package full of super deadly spiders! Also your accents make us laugh haha....

LOL, come on our wildlife's not that deadly...... lol

We have our Aussie pride, we wont let america build a base here let alone test nukes here, Australia is a Nuclear free zone :P

I just adore everyone on this site so much. I relate so much to Gemmie and Chris & Mara comments about families’ reactions because I have so been there. It reminded me of how clueless people are with what we all go through and I have heard the same sort of things. Most of his family is busy pretending that almost 5 years together is nothing and soon we will break up. The truth is, those of us going through this process want to be together for love not for convenience. It takes a heart of desire to through what we all do. Our emotions are not simple, we all are complex and passionate people. Everyone on here embraces life and challenges and really we are envied by others for our character of all the trials we each endure. I am proud of the couples on here and what everyone represents in this world. Just going through the process we each are shows more of our character than most people ever achieve. We each endure distance, sadness and we all know hope. Keep smiling everyone because those on this site are unique. :star:

Well put, and I agree, this site has been a saviour and a death sentance for me. Its been truly great being an August filer, but I keep reading horrible posts about things that happen to delay or deny visas and keep pestering Chris about how its going to happen to us, somedays im sure he wants to duct tape my mouth closed about it lol.

Don't worry MARM.. if you *are* put in AP, you'll probably still get out to the US before me.

What is "AP"?

AP: Administrative Processing, also referred to as AR: Administrative Review. As described by US immigration, this is further processing of an applicant's file after the interview...there is no minimum or maximum time requirement for this. As described by fellow VJers, AP is a black hole, of which no one has an idea where it begins and where it ends...and it means more time waiting...waiting...waiting...not knowing when you will get the visa, you are at the mercy of the consulate at this point of the stage.

The effects of AP: :angry::crying::cry:

I am still being positive and deep down, I am not even thinking that my fiance will be put on AP, if he does....at least I know that UK is much faster getting back to you with the visa than other countries.

AP happens at the NVC stage, in New Hampshire, which is one step before the consulate-related business, aka the visa interview. Therefore, people stuck in AP really are not at the mercy of the consulate. They're just nowhere, waiting for whatever nothing to get done.

3 weeks and counting, for us. We'll be calling again sometime tomorrow.

I was the initial poster about AP, which is where the question came up, and I was talking about AP in terms of after the visa interview.

AP can be at any stage, rarely at the USCIS stage, but it has happened, it may happen at NVC or after the visa interview, which is what I was talking about.

As to your AP situation badgerella, I was reading in the July 08 filers thread, someone was put on AP at NVC and just got out of it after 7 weeks...it is so frustrating not knowing when to expect freedom from AP once they put you under it...I really hope it doesn't happen to our case, and for you, I really hope you get out of it fast!

My best wishes to you!

(and then I read your next post where you mention his girlfriend and his wife? Unless you are referring to the same person as a girlfriend and wife... I think that's actually permission to stab him to death for giving you relationship advice!).

I usually just keep quiet because I don't like arguments with my brother.. but it did play on my mind a lot, and the next time he says something, I promised myself that I would stand up for myself. He doesn't have a wife, just a girlfriend.. he got her pregnant (planned) a few weeks back and I can't help but wonder if it was because of the shock of me leaving since he went through this speech about needing to do something with himself and his life.

You're right Caminic and Mara, this site has been SUCH a help to me.. I actually used to avoid researching for the K1 because everytime I did, I found something else that scared me. When it came time to do this, I found VJ and stumbled upon the most brilliant advice and materials, plus all of these people going through it together! There are times when I read the horror stories but you know what?

I don't really worry about them anymore.. I was terrified that I was going to be denied entry more than once because everyone warned me that telling the truth at POE would send me home.. and I've had no problems, in my 8 trips there and have always said boyfriend/fiance. I was also terrified that we would be waiting months for the NOA2 as I read on other sites and we were approved just before 5 months of waiting.. I read that it would take a few weeks at the NVC, possibly longer.. but according to them, we were in and out within 5 days. Of course it's natural to be scared and things CAN go wrong. I feel awful for those that have been waiting longer or stuck into AP, or denied US entry, or worse. But I've learned to deal with them as they come up, not worry in case they do. :)

Monday, folks! Get ready for some more approvals!

1040 is the main tax form you file at the end of the year. If you use tax transcripts I don't think you need the W-2 and 1040 (if you go the 1040 route I think you have to include the entire set of forms you filed for taxes). I ordered tax transcripts and they took about a week to get to me, they are no charge, you go through an automated tedious system to get them. Push the number of the option, are you sure you want this option, did you say yes, please confirm that you pushed 1 for yes, ok, you pushed yes, would you like to go back to the previous menu and change your mind?
