And the big moment!!!!!

Went to my dress fitter this afternoon and she has done a spectacular job!!!

Fitted prefectly, she just has to finish off the beading on the back, and put on the straps (which she was waiting till today to measure).

She also had a look at my veil ( I am wearing the one my mum wore at her wedding 28 years ago) and said she would attach a comb to hold it in my hair, and put some of the beading in the little flowers that she would do it for free! I have an awesome dress maker!!!

Anyhow there are 3 piccies, one of the front, one of the back and of the train. :)

What do you think girls? (and those guys feeling feminane to comment today :) )

WOW Mara!!!! that is sooooo beautiful!!! You look stunning! No wonder you have a smile on your face. :wow:

anyway, I tried it & it was great. I had no idea if I did it right or not, so last time I saw her, I cooked it for her. One of our friends (Filipina) came over for dinner, but she didnt know what I was cooking. After I finished and she was eating it, she said, WOW, this is really good, WHAT is it? So now I call my dish "Apparently not adobo".

I tried to get my fiancee to make real adobo for me, but she tells me mine is better, so we always have it instead. I guess I probably still have never had adobo.

Yeah, adobo IS easy, this is what my definition of adobo is, and it may not be 100% right, it's just what I've observed from the various times I've eaten adobo (and my brothers wife apparently has some filipino relative, an uncle or something since she cookes adobo now and then, I didn't know it was a filipino food until later on). Adobo is pretty much gravy, with vinegar, the meat in it, or not in it, entirely optional (in the philippines they cooked adobo adidas... does adidas sound like a shoe a shoe to you, I suspect the shoe is named after the filipino word for chicken feet/legs... basically imagine the part of the leg most of us would be least interested in cooking... or eating hehe, it wasn't bad but chicken feet doesn't appeal to me). Garlic is a popular spice there so it's probably added a lot. Anyway, if you made gravy, and you used vinegar, I think it probably qualifies as adobo... HD might set me straight on that as it's just what I've come to think after what I've personally had. Any filipino food you cook in the US is likely to be a little different, we're likely to use chicken breast vs various parts of a whole chicken, less likely to skrimp on some of the ingrediants that are relatively expensive in the phils etc... I made chili while I was there and it turned out pretty good but due to the different brands and difference in other things like meat, it was very different from what I make here in the states.

Depends on how much you want to make... hahaha... yeah... a technically correct answer... that doesn't help at all, I am never sure if this kind of answer is being coy or just how the question is interpretted (who doesn't love answering yes to a multiple choice question like do you prefer pink or orange... yes).

I might have made a mistake waiting until today to go shopping for the ingrediants though hehe, the recipe I'm going to use http://www.ehow.com/how_3801_make-filipino-pansit.html asks for asian rice noodles... I think it's the really thin noodles but I'm not 100% sure, and may have to hit the small asian market to find them, I don't really know, but it's possible the store is not open on sundays...

Just got back home. Dropped my little girl to school and now I am having a little peace and quiet.

Maliciant and Chuck- You guys do whatever you wanna do with your adobo. I honestly think that's the beauty of Filipino cuisine- you can kinda go freestyle on how you do your food. I had adobo when I was in KY back in May and June. It was "good enough" to be my kind of adobo and my fiance was happy so I guess, it wasn't a disaster after all... Having come from a family where my mom could fix real good kick as$ meals, I honestly am a little apprehensive about how I would eventually adjust when I finally settle down there. I am going to miss my dried fish and my bagoong and my seafood!!!

C&G: Haha, yeah, she blew you off instead hahaha, life is cruel!!!...

The pancit turned out very tasty, I took a picture for proof lol... the picture doesn't look that tasty, but trust me, it was very good. I don't recall eating anything quite like this while in the philippines, I did have something close but my fiancee told me it was different (pancit plus gravy I think was the key difference). I don't know, but my first attempt at cooking a filipino dish went smooth, in the end the most exotic ingrediant was rice sticks (I couldn't find rice noodles but I read rice sticks are a good substitute), it's basically thin noodles, but they are kind of chewy, maybe I didn't cook them quite right, I have no idea, but they tasted plenty good enough. I don't know when I'll get brave and try another new recipe, but I'm glad to have one official one under my belt.
