Holy Cow: Co-worker Approached Me About 'Landmark'

I've never heard of Landmark until you posted about it. If I was you, just be honest without being rude. Say you looked into it and it's not something you are interested in at all. If they keep asking why, just say why. Ask HIM the questions, like how much money have you spent on this? Do you think it's worth it? If he says yes then what can you do. I avoid going to any kind of parties, whether it's candle parties or amway or tupperware, anything that claims to be a party but tries to sell you stuff or get you involved in their gimmick, etc. I avoid them like the plague. Been to too many and I am only 27, because I felt bad to say no. I stopped feeling bad about saying no a few years ago.

Tell him you belong to VJ already Mr. 13,000 post (and counting)!

hehehe...with a snap of my finger, I can have 3 unmarked cars full of VJ agents show up at your doorstep with a 'cease and desist' letter regarding any derogatory remarks made about my outrageously high number of posts. B)

sounds like another Tony Robbins. My coworker is totally into the TR, and spends like $10,000/yr to attend his seminars. They're no better when they come back, but they can break a board with their hand.

One of my friends worked for someone who spent thousands a year going to see Tony Robbins.

. . .with the emphasis on breaking down those things that are holding yourself back from being the best you can be.

"In the old days, we would just join the army," that's what my father would tell me.

I had a boss who kept telling me I NEEDED to attend. It would change my life. It does have some interesting aspects, but the won't accept people who have any type of 'mental abberation', depression, or if on certain medications.

To me it was a bit too charismatic. TOO MUCH. And they actually do work on the theory of breaking down your personality. It felt a little too creepy, to me.

Steve - you should one-up him and say that you're already heavily into Scientology. Ask if he would like a "stress test" and a limited-edition copy of Dianetics ;)

Grrr... you took the words out of my mouth.

In the good ol' days we had Scientology, in fact we now have Tom Cruise as living proof of how whacked they can get. Well, him and my ex-brother in law.

The Scientologists have been camped outside my office building all summer. Rows of tables with racks of merchandise and those weird E-Meter things. Mostly young people who are pushing it (late teens - early 20's).

Pretty weird stuff... There's also a Church of Scientology off Broadway. Creepy.

Well, I tend to respect most religions, Scientology included. UNTIL, a few years ago my ex-brother in-law skipped on getting Christmas presents for my sister and niece because he HAD to give his money to his church. They were on him for months to donate money, and it wasn't just a few hundred dollars, it was in the thousands. He has donated so much money to them, it's insane and they make him feel guilty about it by telling him how much they've helped him and that he owes them.

Yeah... since that day they're nothing but a joke to me.

Steve - you should one-up him and say that you're already heavily into Scientology. Ask if he would like a "stress test" and a limited-edition copy of Dianetics ;)

Perhaps you can tell him that you've just achieved the prestigious Synthesus Status in the Church of Joyce, which embraces a philosophy, kooliwhippitokus, that forms the core of your very being. And that barriers to success were quickly broken down by suppositories and gin & tonics with a special secret ingredient marketed by the church.

Perhaps some of you remember EST (Erhard Seminar Training) from the early '70s. this program sounds somewhat similar to it. Using my google-fu I located a website that puts Landmark in the proper perspective:

The Cool Whip hoop-d! Yes indeedy! Back during better economic times, it provided esteemed patrons with a free ride to Joyce's Den of Iniquity.*

*Creative use of fondue, synthetic fabrics, Cool Whip, etc.

No offense to Joyce, but my doctor told me to quit Cool Whip before it quits me. I'm hoping they'll come up with a Cool Whip flavor spray so I can taste it without actually ingesting it.
