That would be a disadvantage if they do that.

Here it goes:

I went to S. Korea in my husband's Camp, it's a US camp, there I got numbers of vaccine. They did this skin test or what they call PPD and guess what? I am positive to TB, it is what they call "latent" TB. They told me that it means I have no active TB but it is dormant in my body. They prescribe me 6 -10 months of Isoniazid.

When I came back to the Philippines, I consulted the doctor about taking Isoniazid as "prophylaxis" to that said "dormant" TB. Actually I went to more than 10 eye doctor, 2 lung doctor, 1 Neurologist and 1 Physician in the E.R. and consulted the same question: "Do I have to take Isoniazid as prophylaxis to TB as it was prescribed to me? 20 put of 10 said "I reccommend not to. Almost every Filipinos will be POSITIVE to skin test or PPD if tested, even ME, 10 out of 10 doctors said. Almost every Filipino had been exposed to TB somewhere inside home, school, church etc.

What they will gona do? Give 6-10 months prophylaxis of Isoniazid before they approve Medical requirement at SLEC?

It seems to me it will be that way base on my experience.

The lung doctor told me this too, in the Philippines, Isoniazid is one of the 3 drug combination given to patients with active TB, if one got it as a prohypaxis prior haviing active TB, he cannot take it anymore and there is no know best alternative other than that 3 drug combination as practiced in Philippine medicine. Maybe they use different combination in the U.S. but what if it so happened that you get TB while you are in the Philippines, God forbid?

When I had my SLEC, all of my X-rays are good and there was no findings. I was confident because seeing more than 10 doctors with 3 X-rays done for different angle prior to SLEc made me confident enough, and so I passed the lung test at SLEC without any hassle.

If they will implement PPD or skin test, I think it will be a complete hassle.

*I consulted more than 10 doctors in and outside the country for my eye problem primarily and just made additional query about the Isoniazid because of being positive to skin test. For history, I took 7 days of Isoniazid and stopped after believing Philippine doctors.

Erratum: In the line: TB. if it's required i believe you have to do it or ask your immigration dr. by calling his-her office, somebody at the reception might know but make sure it's the right info. depending if you had it or not of course.

I had TB skin test done here in our health dept for $15. Since kids in the Philippines are vaccinated with BCG, the result of the test will be positive. They will require you to undergo medication but you can avoid that by showing your X-ray film from St. Lukes. That's what I did when they wanted to put me into 6-month medication.

I hope this will not be implemented, I wonder what SLEC would do if found Filipino applicants positive with this skin test. Take note that most Filipinos would be positive for skin test accroding to the doctors I talked with (this doctors are from St. Luke's, Asian Eye, Asian Hospital and a private hospital in our province).

It's really a hassle to prescribe the 6-9 month medication..I hope they will not deny the journey further.

The TB skin test, PPD is a way to save money. I can't believe they have not been doing it. If you are + pos on the PPD, then you will get a chest x-ray to confirm or rule out TB.

One thing about the PPD is it takes 3 days to finish the test. Now some hospitals, clinics read it in 2, but most are 3 days.
