Yeah yesterday was a good day for storms :D I was in Chicago for the weekend and woke up to a decent one around 7:30. There was one bolt of lightning that looked like it was only blocks away... the following thunder being almost immediate confirmed this.

Being from Windsor, I am pretty used to this kind of weather, and I quite enjoy it... as long as it doesn't cause damage to my stuff :P

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent
  • 7/9/08 -- I-129f received at CSC
  • 7/24/08 -- NOA1 (finally!)
  • 12/2/08 -- NOA2 (WOOT!!!!)
  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!
Crossed at Detroit/Windsor Tunnel... pretty painless, about 45 minutes, inexperienced officer, asked for and received EA stamp
  • 4/13/09 -- Married in New Orleans!!!!!!!!
  • 5/30/09 -- Filed AOS/AP/EAD
  • 6/1/09 -- AOS etc received in Chicago

Being from Nova Scotia, thunderstorms are relatively rare. I happened to move to a state with thunderstorm seasons (AKA spring and fall  ) My hubby laughed at me when I kinda freaked out during the first one I experienced and said "wow, that was a bad one". he replied "oh you'll see, this was nothing"... and he was right, I've gotten quite immune to them now!

You're SO funny Mephys! We live in Tornado Alley here in Missouri, so the storms are incredible. Nothing beats however a powerful thunderstorm in SK. You can see it coming from MILES away.

Thanks Mephys, for your videos and this thread.

As a sailor I am very concerned with weather; all types, always, even when I am not on the water because I have friends on the water somewhere in the world.

And so, the violent weather in Chicago has been quite the topic of conversation.

I just had a thought/feeling: if the unusual has become the usual (a favourite expression), why now?

Could Mother Earth be fed up?

Could she be trying to make us get our heads out of our assses and realize that we live in a small and enclosed system and it is time to take care of that?

Could it be that the violent nature of such a huge megalopolis just manifested its personality into the weather?

Hahaha.

Inquiring minds....

Since I started sailing/racing in Lake Michigan there have been many torrential rains and crazy winds.

I say bring on the winds, not too much, and I can do without the lightning.

Unpredictable.....weather changes in a moment!!!

They clocked over 75 mile an hour winds the other day at a buoy near downtown, and there were tornado warnings/possibilities for the first time in the city.

WOW!

I like the Pacific Northwest (PNW) aka Canadian Southwest (CSW).

We do not have lightning here.

I admire it, and don't want it.

2 nights ago we heard our first Tonrado Warning siren for the year. We usually hear them a couple of times in the summer, but this year has been horrible. Of course it wasn't even a good storm and the siren was from one of the burbs and quickly after about 10 mins was over.

We did finally get rain which we haven't seen for pretty much since April or so, but damn we're really missing out on our usual T-storms this year...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

We have some really bad thunder and lightening storms here in Alabama.

I have been here three years now and I still jump when the thunder rumbles.

It just seems like it is on the roof of my house............I hate that loud noise. They are way worse here than in Nova Scotia. People say becasue its so flat here that it sounds so loud. We have plenty here in the summer. Usually one a day , sometimes it is over fast, other times it last for hours.

My husband loves to sit out and watch the storms.

Long Story Short.

The future wife was here visiting. I live in Indy. A tornado touched down less than a mile away. Was interesting when I stepped outside to show her what to look for. I told her a hour in advance it was going to happen. Kinda freaked her out that I could predict them...lol
