Work History I found is the main thing - I got a servers job straight away and kept looking and I met lots of people and one was Chairman of the Board of Directors for Associated Bank and that helped me get an interview and I got the job - so networking people that came in helped and also having that reference here too.

Maybe get some bar work just to earn some $ while he's looking - shows you're willing to work and network with the customers ! You never know who you'll meet. Pick the place though ! Some decent bar/restaurant.

I found that volunteering helped alot. It was something I could put on my resume instead of just the stuff back home.

I went from being a Para-legal to working in a retail department store. Its not at all what I want to do, but its decent pay for here. ( pay here is really, really bad) I had alot of people say to me during interviews that I was over-qualified or that they pay was less then half of what I used to make. But I answered stating I realized I would have to start at the bottom and work my way up again. That working for less money wasn't a problem becuz the standard of living is much cheaper then where I was from.

In the meantime , I'm still looking for work in the office field . In fact when I got home today there was a message from an office that I applied to.

Another Idea I did was, I when to Yahoo Groups forum and joined a Group called Utah Bulletin ( try a search for whatever city your in,on yahoo groups) I then posted that I was a new resident to the area and was looking for work.I offered to email my resume if anyone needed it. Many people emailed me with info on upcoming jobs and ideas.

One of the men in the group is a Sheriff and he told me there would be an opening in the county sheriffs office soon. He called me today to let me know that his sargeant would be interviewing me in the next two weeks.

You really have to get out there and pound the pavement.

I too, sat at home and looked for work online and it just wasn't helping. Only when I actually started to knock on doors did I get anywhere.

Has your Husband tried going to the local water works office, or other county /city halls? maybe he could get an engineer job in city planning or something?

Anyways, Good Luck !

Shari,

Why don't you try getting him to apply for a job with the local city. I am sure they are always looking for people, I work for our local City and they are always employing people. Plus once you get that sort of job you have excellent benefits that go with it. (A good way to work his way up too).

Just an idea anyway.

I have included a link for your info.

I hope he finds a job soon, just don't get disheartened.

PS. I tried all the websites and agencies and they were no help to me whatsoever, I had to get off my butt in the end lol
