I had a strange thought while washing my SO's Star Trek tee (I have one too!)... political parties aside, do people who like Star Trek also believe in man-induced Global Warming? Share!

Are you also eagerly awaiting the new Star Trek movie next May?! :dancing:

Also, if you included you're trying to reduce your carbon footprint, please share your current numbers!

My footprint: 4.956 tons/year.

i only watched a few episodes of the original Star Trek but I have watched all the Star Trek movies but only liked every other one of them..

I also basically watched every episode of Star Trek the Next Generation and quite enjoyed it...

I hated DS9, I really liked Voyager but really have only watched the first season... and I liked the latest series The Enterprise...

that being said I do believe that us as people have had to have had some effect on the Earth...

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

There was actually an episode of TNG where it was suggested that Warp drive was somehow destroying planetary eco-systems and creating dead spots where warp travel was impossible. They imposed warp-speed restrictions on certain areas of space - but they never revisited it after that.

Warp Drive is a possibility. We still need to unify all the fundamental of forces to understand and control quantum effects leading to a warp drive. We've united electro-magnetic, strong, and weak forces - known and quantum electromagnetic (Yang - Mill Theory of Symmetry) - leaving gravity, the last force to be united.

We know that gravity effects time. A plane synchronized on land differs in time after it travels the earth once and land in the same spot by a significant amount that leads to physicist to incorporate the time phenomenon into GPS satellites, and other satellite systems that requires communication with earth.

Gravity has a connection with time. I'm surprised at the ignorance that people (those who a science challenged) don't believe that time and gravity are related. No matter how much time I put in telling my friends that time was discovered by humans, and not an entity that is physically invented. We just know how to measure it.

There is so much we need to understand about quantum physics.

I love all the ST series and movies. Definitely looking forward to the next one; I'm intrigued with the idea of J.J. Abrams as director

I'm unconvinced on the Global Warming issue. I think Man-made GW, and particularly to what degree GW is caused by Human activity, is far from conclusively proven.

I was a bit annoyed by that one...

Scott And Lai,

You can't walk to a scientifically declined person, and ask them 'where did time came from?" LOL.

Well the most obvious answer to them is that people made time so they measure the future. However, that is wrong. I'm just mad that people who just graduated in Engineering with a bachelors don't know about time (maybe because of the people I work with). They need to goto grad school to take quantum chromodynamics course, or some field related to modern physics.

To let you know, not all engineering majors are required to take modern physics (quantum physics). However, everyone must take classical physics.

My favorite is DS9. I can't stand Voyager and TNG (Janeway and Picard are both too damn preachy).

The original is good too, but DS9 is better.

I believe GW is a naturally occurring phenomenon.

I am doing nothing to reduce my carbon footprint. I don't exactly live a gas guzzling lifestyle anyway.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

My SO heard your first line and predicted you'd like TOS because "Kirk was always bashing people." It's so true!

Personally I loved all the series except the last one. I only got to watch a couple of the first season, then had no access (it was on like Fox2 or something I didn't have on antenna). But to be fair, Voyager was pretty horrible the first half of season 1 -- Kate Mulgrew was waaaay too emotional to be believable as a captain. I still remember a line she said "I NEED your support!" I was like ... oh puhleeeease, like you'd ever hear any captain say that, especially as groveling as she acted it. But Voyager was so great by the end.

And to Marilyn: you should watch TOS on tv if it ever runs in your area! There are too many classic episodes you shouldn't miss... did you see The Trouble With Tribbles? It's the ultimate TOS classic episode.

I watched Star Trek as a child, because my mom was a big Trecky. As an adult, I can't stand it, any of them.

Yes, I do beleive that global warming is occuring, and I try to make efforts to change....not always sucessful, but try none the less.

Haven't really watched any of them. If I had to watch any, it'd probably be the original because the colors and bad acting is funny.

I believe global warming is a natural phenomenon, but we might contribute a little more to it. But I feel it would happen no matter what.

I do try to be more conscious of our way of living, more just for the natural resources of this planet, not just b/c of global warming.

You definitely should give Enterprise a second chance. The last season was especially good; had lots of connections with TOS, and filled in a lot of the intervening history, including a good explanation of why the Klingons from the movies and last four series were so different from the ones in TOS.

I'll do that... if I ever get the chance to watch it. It's not on TV in my area in reruns, and not available at my rental store. I'm too cheap to buy such a thing. :P
