Opening a bank account while AOS pending?

Hi everyone,

I have tried to open a bank account at LNB.Thebanker refused my request stating that following FDIC rules , my passeport and social security card are not enough.I need to show them an ID document issued by US DHS (Employement or residency document) or a State ID or a Driver ID.

I have gone to the Texas departement of transportation and asked for a state ID (since it was the only one i can get withiout going through USCIS, and they asked me to show them an ID document issued by US DHS.

So now i'am blocked, my AOS application was still pending since June 24, and i can't get a driving licence or a bank account

Any advice or help ?

All we needed to add my wife to my bank accounts were, Passport (ID), SSN, and (Foreign Birth-Cert at one bank).

You may want to talk to bank manager, or try a different branch.

If they are spliting hairs then show them the K-1 visa, it has a picture, and it is US government issued, it is pasted in another government issued ID, (PASSPORT).

I tried to apply for a Bank of America bank account and I was not able to. They require a GC and SSN for non-citizens. As for adding me to an existing account of my husband (with other bank), there was no problem. They only need SSN and valid photo ID.

I was able to add my hubby to my Bank of America Account using his SSN & foreign passport without any problems. Definitely ask to speak to the bank manager. If that doesn't work try a different bank or even try to sign up for the account online.

Ditto. We opened the account at Bank of America with SSN and passport only. Green card was still pending then.

I have an account with Wachovia and was able to add my husband. My husband is still in Peru at the moment. All I needed was to call the bank with both my hubby and I on the phone. I did this by calling him and then calling Wachovia and linking the two phones. The only document they needed was his passport.

I was also able to open a bank account with Bank One (now Chase) with just my foreign passport (with US visa on it) and my SSN.

I guess it depends on which bank you go to.

Really? I did it in Bank of America providing my SSS and passport only, but i was not issued an ATM card until I presented them my green card?

I did not have that problem either. I was issued an ATM card right away and they even gave me a credit card about a year after I opened my account, so I could start establish my credit history. The only difference is that I came on a work visa, not a K1.. but I'm not sure this makes any difference to the bank?

Didn't have any issues using my passport and U.S mailing address along with FL driver's license. But could be different though since there are many snow birds down here in Florida.....

I was added to my husband's accounts with only passport and marriage certificate, no SSN or state ID

My husband came on a K1, they gave him his own savings account in Bank of America (with only passport and SSN); opened a joint checking account with both our names, and added his name to my credit card. Only thing they would not do is give him his own credit card. After a couple of months he opened a Paypal account and within a month Paypal gave him a credit card with $4,000 limit!

Wachovia will give your spouse a debit card with out a marriage certificate, SSN, or being in the country.

Just go to a different bank...the FDIC does not require all that, not even a SSN.
