I am asking this question cause after talking to another VJ friend it appears there may be a trend toward MENA men after arrival like a place of their choosing. Anyone else experience that yet? Mine just told me that when he get's here we'll find someplace comfortable...... What?? I am comfortable???

lol... but I am cool with it. :star:

Yes, he is dying to leave "BORING" Arizona. We plan on moving back home (for me) to NJ or NYC as soon as we can...:) I can't wait either. It's hard for him here since its so much slower and no where near what Cairo is like...at least NYC any where on the East Coast will offer him more work wise and acitivties as well. But his line of work he's much better off near large cities and the larger Arts areas.

:) Where does he think would be comfortable? Does he live in a big city?

Mine definitely wanted to move to NYC in the beginning, although we haven't been there yet even for a visit. He'd heard about all kinds of opportunities there, probably some exaggeration. Now he knows a guy who has moved there and knows how much he's struggling, how high the cost of living is, how tiny his apartment is and how he has to share with a bunch of other guys, so he still wants to visit there but isn't talking about moving. We live in the capital of SC, so it's a reasonably sized city, good climate (except for the wearable air at this time of year) and he's pretty happy here now, especially when he sees that the cost of gas and other things is fairly low compared to the rest of the country. Sometimes he does get bored, but he's not one for clubs and constant activity. As long as we can get to the lake or the beach within a couple of hours and he can find folks for pick-up soccer, he's cool. We have thought about moving closer to the ocean one day. We've made day trips down to Charleston, SC, and we both like it there. We'll probably move a little outside of Columbia within a few months to be closer to his job and mine, and by doing so, we should be able to rent a slightly larger place. The important thing to him now is to have a usable spare bedroom for the computers and, we hope, a guest room for one or both of his parents one day.

yeah the same here i want to move to NYC but my fiancee doesn't like that idea so i have to respect the lady !!!!!!

Nothing's impossible . Nothing's unreachable .When I am weary you make me stronger

This love is beautiful .So unforgettable . I feel no winter cold when we are together .

Will you stand by me ?!!!Hold on and never let me go .

Will you stand by me?!! With you i know i belong . When the story gets told .

When day turns into night .I look into your eyes . I see my future now .All the world and its wonder

This love wont fade away. And through the hardest days . I will never question us .You are the reason my only reason.

I'm blessed to find what i need in a world loosing hope. you are my only believe .

You make things right every time after time.....

Will you stand by me ?!!!

I love you so much and i miss you so much more .

When my husband had to start making some trips for work into NYC he soon told me he understood why I had told him why I would never live there. He said it's expensive, dirty, dirty, dirty......

No offense New Yorkers, but that was my husbands thoughts about NYC.

But when he first arrived, he acted like he would love to move to someplace cooler to live and Texas was one of those spots. But he seems happy now living in Ohio, since he appreciates being able to live in a lower cost area, which means living better than other places will allow. Plus he's lucky to be able to travel and see the other so called places and still come home to me in Ohio. Plus he likes for us to be living near my Mother. He likes that we can be near her and keep an eye out on her so with time he came around to thinking Ohio wasn't too bad to live on his own.

However, I do understand lack of knowledge of NYC when someone is not from there. Especially if you are only visiting on trips from work or do not know the "local" places or have family/friends that truly know the area. My experience has been that most folks from smaller areas in the US are intimidated by larger cities. I do agree though life is cheaper other places! That is a definate plus but the other side of the coin....I'm a city girl and need the 24/7 access and activity.

My fiance wants to move and he's not even here yet. When I first moved to Florida about a year and a half ago I swear he had a month long panic attack. He kept talking about the hurricanes and tornadoes, and to this day still asks me to move back up north.

Nawal - It's really hard to live in the city with kids. (but it's has some good things too) We moved from semi-rural WI to Washington DC a little over a year ago. When my husband came we were in WI and his brother was living in NYC with his wife. We went to visit New York and liked it and we also started looking for jobs in other locations in bigger cities (we weren't set on the East Coast but somewhere bigger). I got a job in DC and so we moved out here - whew it was a shock on the pocket book and definetely has tradeoffs. Of course my husband didn't like WI he wanted the big city and the big money. But now that we live in the "big" city there isn't so much "big" money becasue the cost of living is so different. We were paying about $1800 (with utilities etc) for a 2 bedroom apartment outside DC. In WI we paid $600 a month for a 3 bedroom HOUSE. Yes we both make more money but it takes a lot more to get by. It's harder for me to trust people here especially with the kids and even daycare/preschools are astronomical (if you can even get in) in comparison to what there was in WI. I do love that there is so much diversity. My kids are getting used to and see it as normal to have diversity all around them (people, food, activities etc). There are lots of opportunities for jobs, school, and free time but it also comes down to the money issue. I think if your SO has marketable skills and would be able to get at least a mid-level position then it will work fine. If they are going to be working in basic jobs - $10-12 an hr is about what they'll get and that goes nowhere here. (My husband makes $12 and if it weren't for my job he couldn't even pay for our rent).

Now that we've been here awhile he'll ask occassionally "Do you miss WI?" and I'll say yes because of course that's where my family is and I grew up. He talks about missing it too and the community we had there, how much more friendly the people were and being able to get away from people and the city easily. I don't think we'll move back there anytime soon (although who knows). I think that no matter where we are there will always be a longing for another place, I realized awhile ago that neither one of us will ever be home. If we live here, his home in his mind is in Morocco and vice versa. So at least this way we have depended on each other and both been as homesick!!

My husband lived in New York city and so he loves it there, I have lived there too, but to be honest I love the country. We both love the mountains so maybe somewhere like Lake Tahoe. Just as long as I have my cable and computer I am good as gold.
