White American (proud to be...)

As someone else has already said, I don't see the need to be "proud" of something I didn't accomplish. That doesn't mean I'm ashamed of it, either. However, I had no say in being "white" (or Jewish and American as well) and it seems to be that in order to be "proud" of something, someone needs to have achieved some sort of success. Well... I was born. I didn't get a vote in that, now did I? I'm sure my wife is happy my birth occurred, but no one polled me beforehand.

The same, I believe, is true for those of other races, religions and nationalities. What are you so proud of? I'm sure there have been people from your culture that have done wondrous things, but are you one of them? If not, take a step back and stop trying to ride those coattails. Just because a black man (Otis Boykin) invented the pacemaker doesn't mean African Americans today get to take credit for it; likewise, I can't assume responsibility for the work of Albert Einstein or Thomas Edison (simply because they're white and the former is Jewish).

I do think it's a bit of a misnomer to say "White Pride" since there are numerous countries and cultures from which "white" individuals come from. However, the same could be said of blacks as well when considering "Black Pride" too. A black man or woman's experience would differ considerably if he or she were born in the U.S. or UK, for example. So to use one catch-all phrase for either "whites" or "blacks" is incorrect.

Well, your target is BLACK women, of course it would be racist. If you said white women were whores it would be racist too because it's based upon race. Look, if you feel compelled to defend whites go right ahead. Most people understand that this is folly. I don't agree to celebrate my race to begin with, just like be overly patriotic and celebrate my country, or my gender, because these were things I never accomplished, but some people do. People are hypocrites about everything. Just because they're hypocrites doesn't mean you have to jump off the deep end and ###### about things like Black History Month which have a clear purpose, and declare meaningless things that you can't even figure out what to do with, like White History Month.

You live in a society that is still edgy about racism, and yes, racism is still a part of this country, even though there are no slaves. So do what the rest of us do and deal with it, rather than perpetuate the problem and whine about the things you don't have when there are plenty worse off than you in the U.S.

For the record I have no problem with black history, black magazines or Latino etc. The only issue I have is that in the United States white people are made to feel guilty while everyone else's culture should be celebrated. Everyone else is encouraged to promote the growth and advancement of their race alone. Whereas whitey is told to shut up because they had slaves and segregated people.

I am sure you not going to follow my logic but what do you think of the following:

Less than 2% of American actually owned slaves. Yet all white Americans are guilty right.

Now as a percentage of the criminals vs their demographic, so-called minorities (black and Latinos) make up the majority of prisoners. So should it be okay for Caucasian Americans to demand an apology from black Americans and Latinos for the high crime rates. Ridiculous right? or is that different..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

That is not the question or the point.

If Caucasians got together and had their own white history month etc then there would be people who would claim this event is racist. That is the reality in America.

True, take a look at the magazines in circulation==== Essence, the magazine for black women! that is proudly stated on the front of the mag, Latina Woman, is another one, i have never seen a magazine that proudly states "for the white woman" on the front page!! Why? because that would be considered racist and there would an public uproar!

Exactly. Why do people fail to comprehend this..

I have never seen a Greek/Italian or Asian Essence in Australia. There would be a magazine for women as a whole, rather than focusing on one race.

Just look at groups like LA Raza - A group in America for the advancement of Mexicans. Never heard of an equivalent group in Australia.

America is the land of the free. Too much freedom sometimes, thats why things like that are allowed to exist over here. It's been said that Cosmoplitan is the mag for white women, however, it doesn't have "for the white woman" written all over it.

That's a good point.

Why am I responsible for the actions performed by a minority of the population over 200 years, all of whom I was unrelated to and before my family ever came to the United States?

White person travelling can be broken into two categories - First World and Third World.

First world is Europe and Japan, and man, this travel is not only beloved but absolutely essential in their development as white people.

Every white person takes at least one trip to Europe between the ages of 17-29. During this time they are likely to wear a back pack, stay at a hostel, meet someone from Ireland/Sweden/Italy with whom they have a memorable experience, get drunk, see some old churches and ride a train.

What’s amazing is that all white people have pretty much the same experience, but all of them believe theirs to be the first of its kind. So much so that they return to North America with ideas of writing novels and screenplays about their experience.

Upon returning home, they will also find an affinity for a particular beer or liquor from a country they visited. They use this as an excuse to mention their travels when at a bar. “Oh, I’ll have a Czechznlishiyush Pilsner. You see, that was my favorite beer when I was travelling through Slovenia and the Czech republic.”

The second type of white person travel is Third World. This is when they venture to Thailand, Africa or South America. Some do it so that they can one up the white people who only go to Europe.

But like with Europe, white people like to believe they are the first white people to make this trip. As such, they should be recognized as special and important individuals.

That’s right, by going to a country, riding around on a bus or train, staying at a hotel or hostel and eating - they are doing something important for the world.

If a white person shows up in your country, you can make them feel fantastic by saying how you’ve never seen a white person before, and that you are amazed by their iPod - “a device that plays many songs? impossible!”

They might give it to you, then you can sell it for profit. Repeat as necessary.

:lol::rofl:

And to think I missed on the chance to profit from Justin's ipod!!!

Saludos,

Caro

That site and book is silly because it only represents a certain demographic of whites. Cultural context is the key. People from NYC, for example, are quite different from people in LA or the South. Let alone people from London to NY to Sydney.

This is a common misconception around the world actually. People don't understand that 200,000,000 Americans live in between LA and NYC and are nothing like those clowns. If only America promoted this important difference they probably wouldn't be as disliked or hated around the world.

I know of a few ultra liberals back home who have lived and traveled around the world. They absolutely hate NYC and LA but love the deep south. Go figure..

Even on my own campus we have a latino club and it's a bit intimidating as an outsider to see a group of 60-100 latinos come together in the commons knowning I'll never be latino so I can't join. At the same time there is also a Nepali club on our campus and I'm friends with some of them and I've learned that these groups are formed not only as a way to have pride in where they came from but to have someone here extend the hand of friendship to them so they have someone to relate to and help in assimilating here.

latinos skeer me too!

but who's skeered of a bunch of nepalis? they're harmless. i bet all those latinos are ms13 though

Tell that to whoever's had to face off against the Gurkhas - or YCL- or my hubby if he hasn't had his morning chiyaa....

America/ns have a lot to be proud of. It is a relatively new country and has a lot to learn. As did many other nations. It is just not fair, or right, to single out and paint a demographic as basically being the root of all evil while patting everyone else on the back.

The country needs to move on from the rights and race issues that have kept it down since the 70's; all while everyone else is moving forward. It certainly has much more pressing issues to worry about like its high poverty and crime rates, falling living standards etc for an OECD nation.

you just choose to focus on race for a glaringly obvious jealousy.

You have mentioned this a few times. Jealous of what?

Jealous of pride. Clearly.

How many blacks are still demanding an apology? You're simply using extremism as a cause for your own extremist-like views. You don't need to be a polar opposite. You can be a logical alternative. Yet you're choosing to make Black History Month a problem by whining about it, choosing to act like blacks want an apology from us, for what? Because a sensationalist media wants to mention reparations and Barack Obama? Please. Your views are just as extreme as theirs.

It would be interesting to see what the world would be like today if American soldiers in WWII took the hippie route and simply did nothing.
