How can someone be proud of a label that has no nationality or ethnic origin?

dunno. but, if your talking about being proud of being white...white people would be european in origin.

can you explain why black pride & latino pride are okay & not white pride?...not white supremacy white pride.

Actually... if you read the thread in its entirety

you know i'm not going to do that. it hurts my head. so just gimme the answer.

I do? Silly me I guess.

Still if you wait 6 months you can start a new thread on this subject and pretend that noone else said anything. That's pretty much what seems to happen with this topic.

ok will do

dunno. but, if your talking about being proud of being white...white people would be european in origin.

Then you'd say, "I'm proud to be Irish", but 'white' doesn't imply any specific ethnic characteristics beyond color of skin. Can you think of anything unique to being 'white' by which you'd be proud of?

but i'm italian/irish/scottish...all european & *gasp* white.

Well, "White" is all I got. I'm adopted and have no clue as to the ethnic identity of my birth parents. So, ya see, I can only say that I'm white.

As an aside, I'm amazed that this thread has grown like it has.... I only posted it as a joke because of the "We're so great!!1" posts/threads I've seen in some of the other forums.

I always get a chuckle out of the white people who bend so far over backward to disavow their whiteness and any fallability of any ethnic group, that they end up with their nose up their own #######. Seriously. YOU people are the ones who have kept racial tension alive. You make other whites think that blacks are like you and think like you....that all whites are responsible for everything bad that ever happened to them. That whites are the reason for drugs, guns, gangs, crime, etc etc. You're nothing but apologists and enablers.

Whites have problems, blacks have problems - Americans have problems. If we all own up to them and stop making excuses for ourselves - or others - then maybe some change will happen.

Blacks, Mexicans, Cherokee, or whatever are more than welcome to have whatever celebrations they want. Just don't scream racism if a white (ie: Irish, British, French, et al) group wants to do the same. And don't give me that same old tired sh!t about how every day in the US is White Day. Seriously. You can take that ####### and shove it right back up your #######. I don't walk around thinking I'm hot sh!t because I'm white. I don't think I'm superior. I don't have a celebration of my whiteness every day of my life. Unfortunately, I couldn't even if I wanted to.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Ok, then maybe this black power cartoon can serve as an antidote!

jlvn255l.jpg

That's pretty tame.

I used to get a huge bellylaugh out of the black racists that Phil Donahue, Sally Jesse Raphael, etc. used to liven up their talk shows. Sista Souljah was a regular on the circuit. Her racist views against whites were legendary.

Thank goodness most of these fools don't actually have the nuts to do the stuff they espouse. It's more for shock value and to get a rise out of other people. I look at the racists of other races in the same vein. They can say what they want as long as they don't cross the line and carry out the ####### they espouse.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Can you or someone else post a link to an article or something supports this notion that people are screaming 'racists' at St. Patrick's Day Parades or other similar celebrations because I don't hear or see people doing that. If they are doing that...they're being stupid. One thing I love about living in this metropolitan area is you can go to Little Tokyo, Korean Town, China Town, Little Saigon, so many ethnic enclaves where you can find great food and people holding on to some of their rich cultural identity. I remember one restaurant a few years ago in Little Saigon got a lot of flack because the owner had a picture of Ho Chi Min up on the wall. People were threatening to beat him up over it.

It seems the issue here is pointing out people's intolerance towards others who are different from them. Celebrating one's ethnicity or having pride in one's culture is different from having pride in generic classification that really has no meaning beyond physical characteristics.

Then you'd say, "I'm proud to be Irish", but 'white' doesn't imply any specific ethnic characteristics beyond color of skin. Can you think of anything unique to being 'white' by which you'd be proud of?

Same could go for "black".

It's just a skin colour.

As for Americans.... do you really think we're going to say "I'm proud to be English-Irish-Norwegian-German-French-Swedish!" No, those all get covered by "white" and "American".

Black Pride as I understand it was a movement against the oppression that black people have experienced because of their skin color, much like Gay Pride. But things like St. Patrick's Day Parades or Greek Festivals are celebrations of culture and ethnicity.

Don't forget the Moors who conquered Spain in the 8th Century... many Europeans are not anymore 'white' than they are 'black'.

The Black Irish like Jabberwocky said are from the Moors. One of my friends who is a white female and 6'3' with freckles claims to be from the black irish decendency and she proudly wears her "Kiss Me I'm Irish" shirt every St. Patty's Day.

I know a guy that has reddish hair, freckles, green eyes, and claims to be Cherokee. The fool even went to B.I.A. to see what he could get outa them. They told him that while he may (or may not) have some Cherokee blood in him, he is not legally a Cherokee and under the jurisdiction of B.I.A. That doesn't deter him from telling everyone that he is Cherokee and trying to dress the part.

I saw this white guy in Vail, Colorado in 1982 wearing his hair in corn rows and sporting an ANC (African National Congress) T-shirt. He looked to be in high school and was vacationing with his parents. You could see how thrilled they were with his "look".

A friend of mine's white stepdaughter dresses like the urban blacks and actually attempts to speak with a black accent.

These people are clueless as to how foolish they look.

If you are f*cking white, be white! There ain't no shame in being who you are. I don't get it.

I wonder what "definitions" you use to "define" people into those racial categories...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Agreed. Unfortunately, many of those 'representing' the realness of actual 'white power' movements have a weird delusion that their movement equals [fill in your best interpretation] pride. Which it does not. And many attempt to foolishly hide in perpetuation of those same racial stereotypes and prejudice that do continue to plague our societies one way or another.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Its the old reactionary ruse...

Stupid is as stupid does. In this case its ignoring history and its consequences and imagining a better tomorrow without dealing with reality.
