You need to wait about 2 weeks for him to be in the system in order for you to apply for the SS card.

On the other hand, you should also not file for a SSN too soon either.

You should wait 2 weeks after you arrived in the US before applying for a SSN. If you go too soon your

record of arrival will not be in the SAVE-ASVI system yet, and it will require manual verification from the

USCIS.

Our state asked for the SSN, but we had it, so we didn't ask if it was mandatory. At least some states do waive the requirement. Some non-residents marry in the U.S. without immigrating, and they won't have a SSN. Best to call and ask on Monday.

Ibrahim was never asked for a SS number to marry in Illinois.

And the mosques in Illinois DEFINATELY would not marry us Islamically until we were legally married.

Can you drive to Toledo? Lucas County does not require a SS# form him, only his passport and I-94 from my understanding. So there may be hope!

It was asked for when I applied, but it was either SSN or I-94 number.

I don't know how I found the actual marriage laws for my state, but I printed them out and took them with me - good thing I did, or I wouldn't have been able to get married the day after he arrived
