Has anyone been successful in talking to a person when calling the embassy in Lima, Peru?

If so, what phone number did you call?

What options did you press for the automated process?

What time of day did you call?

What day of the week did you call?

Did you call during the hours for an Immigrant or Non-Immigrant Visa?

I am trying to talk to a person at the embassy to find out 2 things in regards to a K1 I-129F:

1. Have the papers from the NVC been received.

2. What is the scheduled interview date.

I know that on the Embassy website it says:

Immigrant Visa Unit (Permanent Residency):

Phone hours: Monday to Friday 2-3 p.m.

Phone: (51-1) 434-3000

Non-Immigrant Visa Unit (Visitor Visas):

Phone hours: Monday to Friday 3-4 p.m.

Phone: (51-1) 434-3000

Thank you for any help.

Not only was I successful in talking with a person each of the 3 times I called, each person was very helpful. Call the immigrat Visa Unit #. Only during the time specified. Be patient and be nice.

My wife and I got the K-1 last July while I was in Peru. They recieved my paperwork two weeks before I had to leave to come back to the states. I asked them very nicely if they could work me in before I had to go. They said I would not be able to get an interview until about October. But two days later I was contacted and we had our interview before I left. Of course, we were also praying very hard.

Good luck, Roy y Roxana

Hi! David tried to call once during the appropriate time, 3-4, as technically the K-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa. When he called, they said that he needed to call between 2-3 because the goal was to eventually to become a permanent resident.

So, the next day he tried calling between 2-3 and he was put on hold almost the entire time and then the hour was up at 3. They said to call back the next day between 2-3 again.

We did not bother trying to call again during the process. He was infuriated.

AOS & getting the SSN & the I-693

6/13/08 Applied for SSN for David ----- TRIP 1; 6/23/08 Went back to SSA 'cuz the person didn't pc all documents (rec'd letter from them) ----- TRIP 2

7/2/08 Received David's health insurance cards! Yay!

7/3/08 Went back to SSA; they said come back 7/9 if he still hasn't received it ----- TRIP 3

7/8/08 Got list of vaccines he still needed from CS by fax/phone; tested for immunity to MMR (only vaccine still needed) at our family dr

7/9 & 7/10/08 Went back to SSA, card still not received - Denied opportunity to apply for replacement ----- TRIP 4; Went back to SSA again to apply for a replacement card - Talked to a supervisor this time, POE people entered his last name incorrectly ----- TRIP 5; went to get David's ID thru the State, denied - instructions wrong on website; measles test inconclusive, another test needed; requested new lease

7/14/08 SSA called me in regards to problems at local SSA office

7/15/08 INFOPASS appt to fix POE name input error and then went to airport to fix POE name error

7/17/08 Received SSN card in mail and went to get state ID

7/21/08 State ID received in the mail and tested again for measles immunity

7/29/08 MMR shot #2 given and dropped off papers at Civil Surgeon (CS)

7/31/08 Picked up I-693, completed by local CS, (I paid $25, don't be fooled)

8/3 - 8/6/08 Worked on forms I-485, G-325A, I-864, I-765 and I-131; sent to Chicago - YESSS!

8/11/08 NOA1 for AOS, EAD and AP; 9/2/08 Transfered to CSC; 9/4/08 Biometrics

10/24/08 Rec'd AP; 10/27/08 Rec'd EAD; 11/24/08 Rec'd GC

I called the embassy in lima at least 4 times... and everytime i had to wait but i got what i was looking for. i needed to change my interview date so i called to change it and called back again to confirm it. i dont trust peruvian mail service, so i had to call again.

it is true you have to wait on the phone for a while..... and you have to call on the correct time.

Personal comment: i thought K1 is an INMIGRANT visa because you are supposed to stay on the states with your american husband or wife......

about the NVC papers.... they will send a letter to the petitioner saying that they received an aproved I-129F including the fiance name, INS receipt number, case number (keep this one in mind), and where the case will be processed.

after that you are supposed to receive package "3 and 4" on the peruvian mail address provided before. if you dont receive it 1 or 2 weekes before your interview, call the embassy. also get all your police certificates, you can do it now, dont wait.

good luck

bye

Katia
