Henia, do they take the binding off right away? I mean I dont want to scare you but I have heard a major cause of SIDS is like over wrapping the child..I dont know, I know its tradition and all, but that would just make me nervous..Babies arent suppose to be perfectly straight when born, they spent 9 months squeezed up inside your belly...They straighten over time...

Well anyways, that little girl is coming any day now huh? Do you have a name picked out? we need some more princesses for all the little men around here...I hope your delivary goes well..sharing a hospital room doesnt sound ideal, is there any way you can pay for your own?

Carrie, yes, moving is a headache, I feel for ya...How is ayman doing? is he becoming a little more independant...Zaid is to the point where I rarely have to hold him anymore...He goes from one toy to the next..He has this new little fetish with shoving his whole fist in his mouth, I wonder if maybe he isnt starting to teeth...Did the transition to soy go well? I know you dont miss buying the nutramigen, lol...

Wahrania, Lemme know when you got the package, you should have it today or tomorrow

Well from what I see they bind the baby for 40 days (confinement period) ... funny you should mention SIDS since I hear so many babies dying from unknown reasons ... something I guess people do not question as they say God took them!

I personally swaddled (lightly) my daughter when she was born for like 2 weeks (thou I remember reading somewhere swaddling is done for 2 months?!) ... it seemed to calm her down. I am not allowing anyone to bind my baby, or do some ritual with candles or even the henna. I know henna is natural and safe, etc etc but not convinced safe enough for newborns! So that is out for me! Real shame I guess for the in-laws they will be disappointed since I will be fighting this one LOL!

Public hospitals are real crowded so no way for any privacy or even your SO with you during delivery. We have paid for care at private clinic (where supposely have own room with doula coach but you never know here) Cost way too much ... I shocked how they asked for! Buuuut the thing is it is 2 hour drive so it is always in the back of my mind that horrible thought I won't make it there on time! But even if I do, still have to fight to not have forceps or vacuum on the baby, as it is common here. And they donnot seem to care what you want afterall!

Ye, they said will be girl but will only know once she/he is here! They told me last time my daughter would be boy and well she wasn't LOL! But we have picked out Meriem-Cherifa for the name of girl and Youcef for boy!

Everyone, esp JP and Wahrania/Haging in there keep those baby pix coming! Wanna see some more babies! And for those wh did post them .... Leibarak beautiful babies! Bless them all!

Express registered mail takes about 10 days from the USA, but regularly sent mail is iffy to Algeria. Some of my mail (letters not packages) arrived in 30 days, while others in 4 and 6 months. So Allahu allem! But I think Hanging in there lives in Florida not Algeria!

Not that I am asking, but if anyone can help me with a baby sling ... it would so greatly appreciated! None to be found here ... and trying to get someone to sew me one is difficult, even with pictures people seem to what to understand the picture LOL! But anything really is appreciated!

I will be glad to send stuff to you and I will look for the whole baby sling pattern and stuff. My mail that I have sent to there has been very iffy but eventually EVERYTHING I have sent has gotten there. I just think we need to start mailing you things now rather than later to get it to you. Here is a link for baby slings. What else do you need for the baby besides slings?http://www.kellymom.com/parenting/sling.html

I got the baby box today with the bottles and the onsies. They are amazing and wonderful . THANK YOU. I am so excited because it has taken my mind off alot of other things and I feel like I have what I need as far as baby onsies and I am thrilled. Thanks for the formula too. I will be glad to foward things on to another expectant mom ( boys). We need to a VJ baby bank that we keep track of things and send things along to the next one so that everyone gets the help they need.

Thanks so much K . I really appreciate everything

I am all for swaddling ... worked with my daughter! But binding - no way! They bind the baby way too tight with these strips of binding cloth. I have seen many baby literally red/blue in the face after binding. Something I am sure is not healthy one bit!

That is exactly what Simo was talking about. He said they take their arms and put them straight against their sides, then straighten their legs out and wrap them in a blanket really tight. Then you take another long piece of cloth and wrap that around and around (like a mummy) so that they cannot move. He told me they do this so that the baby straightens out and so they stay still and don't move. I was horrified when he was telling me this. I told him that it was insane. Swaddling an infant to give them a sense of security and keep them from scaring themselves is one thing, binding to me is torture.

Well I am not gonna do it because I probably would get his arm or leg caught and then hed be trapped in his swaddle. I am just gonna let him kick his feet like an american baby

wahrania, wanted to tell you....If you go to enfamil.com....you can register, when you do that, they will send you two large cans of powdered formula and some coupons, then from there on, they send a 5$ off coupon everymonth for a can of formula....I know similac brand use to be "the most commonly used formula) but ive had excellent luck with all enfamil products, so i would try it, plus, 2 free cans, cant beat it...

Im also a fan of generics...I WISH they made a generic for the formula zaid is on...Targets unscented wipes are great and the price is too! I wont use generic diapers...but..Huggies 96 pack of size 2 at walmart is only like 16$ and with a 1.50$ off coupon, you cant really beat it..i was using the supremes, but regular huggies have been doing just fine!

Wahrania, I dont mean to get nosy, but, being the only working parent in your house, Could you qualify for assistance for formula thru your state?

Whenever I hear about a friend or someone that is getting ready to go into the hospital to have a baby, I give them this one bit of advice.....

SNATCH THAT HOSPITAL ROOM BALLHEADED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took every diaper, blanket, formula sample, bag...EVERYTHING. You're paying for it in the end...so....TAKE IT ALL!!!!!!

I think most formula companies leave a sample and a bag (there were 2 in my room) in your hospital room. I completely forgot about registering as well with the formula companies. I got a $5 coupon each month that at least helped with buying the one can. When my son was 9-12 months, he was going through a big can of Similac in a week and a half. Those cans were over $20 each. WHEW!!!!! What a great day it was when he finally went to regular milk.

I'm a big fan of generic, but I do want to say that I chose Similac because I have been told by our peditrician that it's the closest thing to breast milk. I was very fortunate that we never had any problems with him not being able to digest it.

LOL

Also, if you have a great nurse they will load you up before you leave as well. :) I agree about generic but we can't use it with the twins ... emfamil has worked the best. Its very expensive w/ the twins...we go thru Four 38 oz cans every two weeks...Ahhhhh!!! The cans are about 32 dollars a pop...but the 5 bucks off helps at least.:blink:

Sign up online to all name brand baby products and they send coupons out the "wazzooo" LOL...its the best thing you can do.
