Hi all,

first time posting but I've been lurking for quite a while.

I need some advice about the I-864 form. My husband and I are both living and working in London so although he will be sponsoring me he has no U.S income.

Unfortunately we don't know anyone in the U.S who is in the position to act as a co-sponsor.

We have a substantial savings account and I'm wondering if this would be enough to satisfy the requirements? Will we need 3 x 125% of the poverty limit, so $52,500??

Does it matter if this money is in a U.K bank account?

What proof do I need to show?

Apologies for the stream of questions, but our appointment is on the 18th and I'm a little frantic!

Hi,

you can definitely do it with assets, we did, but before the interview we transferred most of our assets to the US, as I heard they want the sponsor money (income or assets) US based so they can go after it if you become a public charge. We had 80'000 USD in a bank account and a house without a mortgage over there (we needed more than you as our hosehold size is 4).

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

thanks for your response.

Did you provide bank statements as proof? Has anyone used cash assets based outside of the U.S.?

For the account, we provided an online statement (printed out of course). For the house, most recent evaluation (2007) and closing papers.
