Then whenever I get a new phone I have someone that unlocks them so I can use them outside of the US.

Is it anyone you could recommend. I haven't found anywhere reliable to get the US phone my wife uses unlocked.

The way I find them is by googling cellphone unlocking in your area. Or just start calling the independent cell phone stores in your area and ask them if they unlock cell phones. Alot of the independent guys that sell multiple brands either unlock them or know someone that does.

The good one I used to use was in Oakland, CA. And it was an area that was not good for a white boy like me to be in.

The phone companies here are vampires. I only ever used pay as you go back home as I was a light phone user but would text a decent amount. I came over here and found they expect you to pay per minute when you answer a call, which is wrong.. the person placing the call just paid to connect to you why should you pay again?.. Then they charge when you receive a text and charge just a much to send a stupid text... I had O2 back home, pay as you go with 300 free texts, no money in the account and could still pickup the stupid phone and answer it without it costing money! That doesn't happen over here for pay as you go.. does it?.. Alright I could go get a contract phone and pay what per month? I was paying about $17 back home at most per month and was as happy as a pig in $hite. My mobile minutes over here are rationed quite heavily as it just costs too much.

Incoming SMS charges do #### me. On the other hand how much does it cost to call a mobile there from a landline or from overseas. Whereas in the US it is the same as calling a landline. Plus most networks let you call other people on the same network for free 24/7 no caps.

The pre-paid market is not as big or popular here.

And I pay something like $10 a month for unlimited text. Last month my daughter did 1700 texts and it only cost me the $10.

In terms of the cost of handsets, included calls/minutes, sms rates, unlimited data rates, unlimited calls etc I find the US carriers to be much much cheaper. The only thing that is much more expensive here is international calls. Plus we have a limited range of handsets here and they are usually a little old. There are a lot of good handsets we miss out on.

The only other thing I can think of is two way cell video calls. Even though it is yet to come out here, I was using this since 2002 back home.
