Javi has all the same issues as you do Nessa. Plus the issue of saying a v like a b as Pedro does. Javi has issues with s on the end of certain words. Like the other day he said test-es instead of tests. He says taste-es instead of tastes. Then of course he has the usual especial or espeghetti that espanish espeakers always have. :lol:

like enphasizing the last syllable instead of the first one as it should be? that's how i do to the ED in the end of words

I decided to start this thread for us, which have english as a second language, to share words we can't pronounce, difficulties, etc.

I know there were tons of threads like this, but it won't hurt to have a new one.

I'll start:

One of my main problems is certain words that are similar, but pronounced slightly different, such as:

- beach and b!tch - I can pronounce only sounding like b!tch

- sheet and sh!t - I can only pronounce sh!t

- sheep and ship - I can pronounce only like ship

- math and meth - I can pronounce meth

(did u guys notice a pattern there? I can pronounce the words I'm not supposed to be using, the bad words usually )

Second problem is words that have a syllable that we don't have anything simliar in our latin language:

- TH in the end of the sentences - that's very complicated cuz our latin language we don't have the th. So every time I have to say things like Aug 13th, I just say 13 of August, cuz the 13th just sucks bad

Hmm...the pattern I see there is difficulty pronouncing longer vowel sounds, does that seem to be the case?

pretty much. which makes my life difficult when i tell my boss the spreadsh!t was updated, or that i miss brazil because of the b!tches, or that my meth was correct

So, you have to convince him that you don't have an attitude problem, just a pronunciation problem

i don't consider that broken english nessinha.. broken english for me is grammatical errors.. not pronunciation differences, an accent is not wrong....

i have the same issues though ask Julia how i say cookies, book, good, etc hahahah, but I don't mind

Yeah Broken English would be something as exemplified by Manuel the spanish waiter from Fawlty Towers - where English words are strung together without any consideration of grammatical rules, often with words from the person's mother tongue being used as filler.

in spanish b-v are both a bilabial stop, there's no fricative consonants like in english

same with the phonemes.. romance language don't have those different phonemes.. so it takes a lot of practice to get them right.. sheep-ship etc

My mother, she's a wonderful women. Although, I do disagree with her alot, she's still my mother.

I always have a laugh sometimes when she says, "You not go outside okay." Or, "You go at the pool."

I still lover her even if her English is broken. I help pay her bills, gas money, and food.

The only time you pronounce the "id" sound at the end is when the word ends in a d or to. For example:

want (ed)

visit (ed)

list (ed)

need (ed)

Most of the time you prounced the "ed" like d....though you have the "t" sound too...

looked

splashed

talked

walked

etc...

Aren't there usually rules against that?

A lot of non-native English speakers have problems with prepositions (at, in, on, to, for, etc)

Latinos pronounce SH as CH, so they would say SUCHI.

I like how they pronoune words that start with S separately. Like "my Spanish class" becomes "my espanish class". Or in Vegas they all said "Palace Estation" or "Sunset Estation" instead of Palaccccce Station.

Thats interesting. My husband is from Morocco and he has some similarities. He says the "ed" at the end the same as you do in the latin language. He also doesn't say "th", so if he wants to say three he says tree.

A funny story. My dad hooked him on peaches with cottage cheese. One day he said to me "baby, can you fix me some b!tches with cottage cheese". Lets just say that was a jaw dropper!
