The only logical way to drive down prices is to lower consumption. The American public is unwilling to do so and is suffering the consequences.

That is why we have the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. So the US military can defend the USA in time of war when supply disruptions are likely to occur. Otherwise, the American public is at the mercy of market forces. In other words...Uncle Sugar could care less if you have gasoline to drive to the store for a 6-pack. That is not their priority in a capitalistic society.

When a country imports 70% of it's energy needs it is opening itself up to a lot of negative consequences. How much plainer can I state this fact? Do you really think we are engaged in Iraq for freedom and democracy? You don't think that a region that holds most of the world's oil reserves might be the main reason? Why else would the US government really give a rat's azz about the region at all? For humanitarian reasons?

At some point maybe the American people might wake up to the fact that they import 70% of a vital resource from a region that is inherently in turmoil and is a major player in world supplies? Apparently some of the more mentally challenged can't connect the dots.
