Dear VJ members,

I have a dilemma here on the Police certificates.Does anybody know whether I need to have two Police certificates as I am not a UK citizen but from India.I just got the UK Police certificate and I had been living here nearly 5 years, but when I went to the following site-http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police there it doesnt say anything about my situation where-the person is living as a resident of a different country of not their nationality.

Should I be getting a Police certificate from my home country too?

MAny thanks to you all...

You will need police certificates from each country you have lived in since the age of 16 years old, regardless of whether you are a resident of the UK at this point.

We had the same question when we first started our journey. Good luck with your process, I pray that it is a smooth one for you.

You are required to get certs from all Places (COUNTRIES) lived since age 16, so yes if you live in Inda after age 16, you will need one from there.

My wife is Vietnamese citizen. She has been living in Canada for the past 2 years. I posted the same question as yours. VJ members all suggested to have both police certificates from Vietnam & Canada.

The NVC visa guide has a table to check. It seems to me they require to have both certificates.

Take no risk and no chance. Let get a police record from India as well.

Check if you can get it through the Indian Embassy in UK. Good luck

I think the other poster have it right ... you will need police certificates for all countries you have resided for 6 months or more since the age of 16.

I appreciate it can get confusing - I had a querying when i was starting this process. As a UK citizen I spent 3 years in Gibraltar ( A British Territory) whilst husband was serving there in RAF - Still had to get a police certificate for that and for Germany ( again there due to husbands military service).

Good luck! I had to do the same when I applied for K-1 as I'd lived in Belgium for 3 years, but I asked a friend to call the commune (she is very pushy) and ask them to mail me one. Which they did. In fact, it was easier to get my Belgian police certificate than it was to get my British one!
