But my ignorance will still get me my citizenship.

The best evidence for this will come with the results of your application. Please post the results when they occur. Until then, all of this is speculation.

We've been married for 4 years now and I am over the age of 29.

It's not how long you have been married, but how long you have had your green card, were you over 26 when you received your green card? If you were, never was a problem.

This is an update of my situation with me thinking I did not register with the Selective Service. I just found out that I di register with them and that at the time of registration, I did not have a social Security Number. So if someone is getting panicked thinking he never registered, if you have a driver's licence you probably have already registered. Make sure you remember the address you were when you first got your licence.

Please people help others and not instill fear on them. It is true that ignorance is not an excuse but we are not the first set of people USCIS is delaing with so they know, they are stuff immigrants would not know about. I bet 50% of immigrants who are registered don't even for the Selective Service do not even know it 'till they are asked for it.

Thanks to those of you who showed understanding! I just don't want to mention anyone but anybody reading the post will be able to point you out!

I am filling for citizenship end of November so I will have my update posted. Looks like Texas Service Center is rolling!

God bless!

Here is my Citizenship Timeline:

You never specified your age when you first received your green card, and you should reread your first post for lack or pertinent information you provided about yourself. Or why even post such a question? I know I didn't come hard on you, just reported the requirements, but from further information you provided, doesn't even sound like you were required to register.

The present registering requirement for selective service was resumed by Reagan after a four year absence, ironic, because Ronald was a draft dodger himself using his actor status to make defense films in the safety of Hollywood. It is estimated that only about 78% of those males in that age bracket do indeed register. It's really an outdated system in this nuclear age, if such should occur, half the world would be blown away before guys could get drafted. And it take a very long time to train a boy or girl how to fight, in particular in this highly electronic age with live in. By then, the world will be blown away.

Posting my results as you stated it was just speculation with me telling you I would get my citizenship. So I have been APPROVED and I will get my citizenship based on my ignorance . ;) And that's exaclty what I told the IO too. I did not know about the registering for the SSS.

as far as i know, if you lived in the US between the age of 18-25 and u didn`t not register for the SS and you want to apply for citizenship, you have to call the SSS and get registred and send your registration number with your application..and it is a must to register if you lived here before the age of 25 as an immigrant...i don`t know what the immig officer will say if u r not registred..but it would be better to register if you want things go smooth...

anybody can corrects me if i m wrong please..

good luck

Tmman it wasn;t that we are not registered, I like Haiti did not know that we had to apply to the SSS when we got our green cards. There were people on this thread who were being jerks and stating that we should be sent back because we did not apply to the SSS. Anyways I stated that my ignorance for not filing with the SSS would still yield me my citizenship. And as of yesterday it did. I passed my interview and got my letter of approval. It's not an issue for Haiti or myself because we both are registered with SS.

Thank you SO much for this helpful information. YOU ROCK!!!

Thanks for your answer but it was not complete at all. There is more specification that is not too popular. I 30 and I am applying for citizenship based on my marriage with a US citizen ( I don't think I mentionned that before) I found the answer for myself and want to post it for whoever is in the same situation as I am. Here is an aticle I found:

NATURALIZATION AND THE SELECTIVE SERVICE

In general, all men ages 18 to 25 present in the U.S. (regardless of citizenship or immigration status) are required to register for the U.S. Selective Service. Men who are in the U.S. in valid nonimmigrant status (i.e. on a student or visitor’s visa) while age 18 to 25 are not required to register. Registering for the Selective Service does not mean that you will automatically be called to serve in the military.

Naturalization applicants are supposed to show good moral character for the five years before their application is filed (or three years, if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen). USCIS (formerly called INS) says that men who were required to register for the Selective Service but “knowingly and willfully” did not register during the five (or three) years before applying to naturalize can’t show good moral character. Many people don’t know about the requirement to register for the Selective Service, and therefore don’t register. If you are applying to naturalize, please review the following about the Selective Service requirement:

If you are a man but were not in the U.S. while age 18 to 25, or if you are a woman: you do not need to worry about this requirement.

If you are a man now over age 25 and registered for the Selective Service between the ages of 18 and 25: You can go to the Selective Service web site (www.sss.gov), enter your name, Social Security number, and birth date, and make a print out showing that you registered. Or you can call (847) 688-6888 or (847) 688-2576 to get proof that you registered. You should submit this with your naturalization application.

If you are a man now age 18 to 25 present in the U.S. and thinking about applying to naturalize: You should make sure you have registered for the Selective Service and show proof that you registered when you submit your naturalization application. See the Selective Service contact information above. NOTE: if your beliefs prevent you from serving in the military, you still need to register for the Selective Service, but if you are called to serve in the military, you can explain why your beliefs prevent you from serving.

If you are a man and were in the U.S. between the ages of 18 and 25 but did not register for the Selective Service, see what you should do if thinking about naturalizing based on which of the following three categories applies to you:

If you are now under age 31 (or 29, if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen) and you didn’t register because you didn’t know about the requirement: you can probably still apply to naturalize, but you should submit a statement saying that you didn’t know about the requirement and your failure to register for the Selective Service was not knowing and willful. You should try to register now but probably won’t be able to.

If you are now under age 31 (or 29, if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen) and you didn’t register even though you knew about the requirement: you should get legal assistance before applying.

If you are over age 31 (or 29, if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen): you can probably still apply to naturalize without explaining why you didn’t register, as long as you didn’t do anything in the past five (or three if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen) years that affects your good moral character (such as a crime, not paying child support, etc.).
