The thing with us is that any movie that has come out, he's probably seen in Jamaica. They copy those suckers as soon as they come out. I always laughed when I talked to him and he was watching some new movie that was just in our theatres here.

Same with my husband. He used to rent every single movie down there that was still in the theaters over here and I just didn't get it, I was so naive. So then when I went to visit we rented one and it was hilarious because one of the first things you saw on screen was "For Oscar consideration". I was like what?!!! Even Academy voters are pirating these suckers?!

Well if you are going for great classics... there are always the great American musicals! There is definitely not nearly as much violence in these....

West Side Story

Meet me in St. Louis (one of my childhood faves)

RENT

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (not for the musical virgin...trust me. Seven brothers kid nap seven brides, a bit creepy)

Unsinkable Molly Brown

Singing in the Rain

White Christmas

Mary Poppins

Besides those, there are the all important classic chick flicks:

Clueless

Sixteen Candles

Pretty in Pink

Footloose

Dirty Dancing

Sweet Home Alabama

it's pretty clear all I do is watch far too many movies waiting for my sweet to get here!

When Harry met Sally (just the deli scene alone is worth it)

Moonstruck (still trying to figure out what the mother is cooking for breakfast in one of the scenes)

Overboard (I have a strange addiction with that one) Forced an unknowing hubby to watch it with me. He thought it was amuzing the first time, after 3 more watchings it has lost it's fleeting appeal ( for him any way)

Ferris Bueller's day off.

The good part about these flicks are they are on cable ad naseum so waiting for a visit from netflicks is not required :P

Although I'm not a gambler, I just watched '21' and thought it was well-done. Gives you an idea of Las Vegas (where I'll be moving to). If you can find any movies that were filmed in your local area, it's always fun to recognize the locations. Your spouse might enjoy that too.

Folks

Since one of my old time favorites (JAWS-sure it looks a little dated) is on tonight I thought I would ask

what movies you rented / shared with your SO when they arrived. Movies that would serve as

an introduction to USA.

Maybe God Father 1&2

Goodfellas

Well I need some help from the ladies for some good "chick flicks".

clueless is an awesome movie, but i dont know if non-americans can appreciate its true beauty...guys definitely cant

I have known a few guys who liked the movie, Clueless.. my hubby being one of them.. he also liked Legally Blonde

spaceballs ? lol

 I have a copy of that!!.. My wife hates it and she's the american!.. I seen it just recently in the $5 bin at the local zoo (Wal-Mart).. I think they also had another classic.. Airplane!

Airplane should be considered a classic movie...
