Hello there,

I've been stateside now for just under a month - I arrived with hubby2B on July 3rd through Miami and had no hassle at all.

He is active duty army, and since we live on post, I had to jump start things and apply for a social security number and a driver's license just so I can get on post without a hassle (otherwise, I am required to authenticate my passport each and every entry as well as be accompanied by him - which is impossible). The very kind woman at the DMV informed me that I would not get a driver's license valid past Oct. 1st since that is the expiry date of my I-94.

SO:

In order to continue being able to gain admittance to post on my own, I am attempting to get everything I can in order NOW so that once the wedding on Aug 23 is complete, I can just grab the packet when I get the marriage certificate and head straight to the post office.

So I am looking at the guides and so on and I see where I need to do a medical... oh wait, NOT a medical since I had a medical done in Kingston less than a year ago ... so now I need .... a supplement? I'm not sure what I need and I don't want the civil surgeon to be giving me incorrect information: do I need the full I-693 or just the I-693A as referred to in the following quote:

When you apply to adjust status in the States, assuming you as a K-1 holder apply within one year of the original medical, you need an I-693A. This is USCIS'S VACCINATION SUPPLEMENT. Here's where it gets tricky! Some people have submitted a DS-3025 (obtained overseas at your medical documenting your vaccinations) with their AOS package and have NOT received RFE's. Some HAVE. If you want to be absolutely safe in terms of your medical documentation as a K-1 adjusting status, you should take your DS-3025 to a USCIS-certified civil surgeon and ask them to transfer the information from your DS-3025 to an I-693A. They should do this for a nominal charge. If they try to tell you you need a full medical examination, DO NOT LISTEN. You ONLY need the vaccination supplement. The following memo from the USCIS documents that this completed form will remain valid beyond one year when submitted with most Adjustment of Status applications.

The civil surgeon should give you an I-693A documenting the fact that your vaccinations are complete (either they were completed when you had your medical or you had them completed stateside). You should submit this with your AOS package.

The other question is this: having been married once before back in my home country, I will have to submit copies of the marriage cert. and divorce decree - correct? Do they have to be the original copies, or can I use photocopies? Anyone know?

Finally, I will be filing EAD and AP forms along with my AOS - seems as if I will need a total of 6 passport photos - correct?

Congrats on your upcomeing wedding date. I'm not sure if you did this, but when we came to the states July 4th and was interviewed by the immigration officer I asked them if I could have a copy of his medical. He gladly handed me a copy, since he had 4. I also had a civil surgeon fill out the I-693 just to be on the safe side (a friend of mine)...he says you do not need a complete medical if you just had a physical in Jamaica and not to let them tell you otherwise.

Getting my husband's license was a pain in the neck. We went the day after I got married. They wanted to see the marriage certificate, since I don't have his SSN yet. I think 6 pictures is correct. That's how many I had taken of my husband.

A copy of your divorce decree is fine. That's what I used.

6 pictures is correct.

I have a different opinion then most on the medical. So, contacting JAE may be what you need to do.
